Media release 27th of April 2025

Theft:

On Saturday the 26th of April 2025 we attended a north end residence for reports of a stolen e-bike. The homeowner reported their 2025 Swift “Edge” e-bike stolen sometime overnight. The e-bike is black with yellow stripes and is valued at $1200.00. Warrant arrests:

On Saturday evening members of the Elgin OPP had a 57-year-old male in custody on an unrelated incident, who also had an outstanding warrant held by our service for breach of probation. The male was transported to our station by the OPP and later released with a future court date. Incident ST25006863.

Employee theft:

On Saturday evening a local business reported an ongoing investigation into theft by an employee. The complainant reported monies missing from the cash till over a period of time that totaled over $1000.00, a warrant is being requested for the arrest of the 34-year-old female employee, charged theft under $5000. Assault with a weapon:

On Saturday evening Police attended a local park for reports of a youth threatening another youth with a knife. On arrival Police located the victim and a parent who indicated a much older male youth had approached the victim with a knife and had attempted to instigate a fight. The suspect was located in the park and arrested on reasonable grounds for assault with a weapon. Search incident to arrest officers located a large flick style knife, which is a prohibited device. The youth was transported to the station and later released on a youth undertaking with conditions to his parents – charged assault with a weapon and possess prohibited weapon. Incident ST25006871.

Theft/Shoplifting:

On Saturday evening Police were called to an east end business for reports of a male and female that had stolen alcoholic beverages and fled the store on an e-bike.  Video is being obtained for the incident and it is under investigation. The female is described as being in her 60’s, with a younger male with short orange/red hair and a beard of the same colour. Intimate partner violence:

On Saturday night we were called to a residence by concerned parents reporting that their daughter had disclosed ongoing and severe abuse at the hands of her 18-year-old male partner. Police obtained a statement from the involved parties and the victim and are now seeking a warrant for the male suspect – charged with ten counts of spousal assault, seven counts of assault bodily harm – choking, and one count of utter threats to cause death. The incidents covered the span of the relationship and the victim did not require medical attention at the time of the report. Incident ST25006880.

Impaired operation:

On Saturday night we were called to the parking lot of a local licenced establishment where a caller reported a potential impaired driver leaving the area. The vehicle was located a short distance away and was stopped by two police cruisers. The accused struck one of the cruisers inadvertently during the stop. The 75-year-old male driver was given a roadside screening test and registered a fail and was arrested for operate a conveyance in excess of 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. The accused later provided samples at the station that were 1.5 times over the legal limit. He was later released with a future court date. Incident ST25006886.
