Thefts:
We have been receiving an increasing number of calls regarding thefts of election signs from various locations throughout the city. On Friday the 18th of April 2025 we received a similar call for service and through investigation learned that approximately eight residences had election signs from various political parties taken from their lawns. Video was obtained showing a male, believed to be in his late teens or early twenties, with medium length brown hair, wearing a white ball cap and a white shirt, exiting a black hatchback and removing the signs. The hatchback appeared to have several other youths inside. The matter is currently under investigation. Fail to Comply with Court Order:
On Friday afternoon officers were dealing with a 65-year-old male at his residence on an unrelated matter when a query of his records showed he was currently living in the community on a court mandated mental health order, found not criminally responsible for several significant and severe offences. The mental health order included conditions to not consume alcohol or other intoxicating substances and not to possess any incendiary devices. Officers observed the male to be consuming alcohol and to have a lighter in his possession. The male was arrested and transported the station, later charged with breach of court order x2, released with a future court date and taken to the Southwest Center for Forensic Mental Health Care. Theft/Mischief:
On Friday afternoon a downtown restaurant contacted us to report that a female had stolen a marketing display from in front of the business. We attended and located the female a short distance away, recovering the stolen property, which was damaged. The 28-year-old St Thomas female was arrested and charged with theft and mischief. She released on an undertaking with conditions and a future court date. Incident ST25006340.
Bail Violations:
On Friday afternoon a St Thomas resident attended the station to report a female party, who is on outstanding charges before the courts related to intimate partner violence, had attended his residence and spoke directly to him, in contravention of her release conditions. A warrant is currently being sought for the arrest of the 45-year-old-female party, charged fail to comply with release order. Incident ST25006344.
Warrant arrests:
On Friday night officers were at an unrelated call for service when they learned that an involved party had an existing warrant for his arrest related to intimate partner violence. The 35-year-old male was arrested on the strength of the warrant, transported to the station, and released on an undertaking with conditions and a future court date. Incident ST25006365.
On Friday night an officer on general patrol observed a 35-year-old male known to them to be wanted on a warrant held by the St Thomas Police Service for shoplifting. The male was arrested on the strength of the warrant. The male was later released on an undertaking with conditions and a future court date. Incident ST25006368.
Impaired Operation:
In the early morning hours of Saturday, the 19th we were contacted by Elgin OPP who reported a possible impaired driver entering the city. The OPP were handling a call for service of intimate partner violence between the male driver and a female that occurred in the county. The vehicle was located in the city near the male’s residence and he was issued the roadside screening demand, and registered a failure. The 30-year-old male was arrested for operate conveyance with a blood alcohol limit in excess of 80 mgs and later provided samples into the Intoxilyzer that were double the legal limit. The male’s vehicle was impounded and he was later released with a future court date. Incident ST25006378.
R.I.D.E program:
On Friday night Police officers conducted an on duty R.I.D.E. program in the city. Numerous vehicles were checked and we are happy to report no other signs of impairment were noted. Incident ST25006372.
