St. Thomas, ON – Thursday March 6th 2025
March is Fraud Prevention Month, and the St. Thomas Police Service is reminding residents to stay vigilant against scams and fraudulent activities that continue to target individuals and businesses. This month, we aim to educate the public on recognizing, rejecting, and reporting fraud.
Fraud comes in many forms, including identity theft, online scams, phone scams, and investment fraud. As technology advances, criminals are becoming more sophisticated in their tactics. STPS encourages the community to be cautious when sharing personal information, making online transactions, and responding to unsolicited messages or phone calls.
The best way to protect yourself from fraud is through awareness and education. Fraudsters often prey on trust and urgency, so taking a moment to verify information before acting can prevent financial loss and identity theft.
If you believe you have been a victim of fraud, report it to the St. Thomas Police Service at 519-631-1224 and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or visit www.antifraudcentre.ca
