Investigation leads to arrest

St. Thomas, ON (Friday June 16th, 2023)

An investigation that began on May 31st, 2023 has concluded.

Just before 11:00 p.m. on May 27th, 2023 an unknown person attended a retail store on Talbot Street and loaded a van with shelving, valued at over $7,000 before leaving the area.

Police were contacted after store staff became aware of the incident while reviewing video surveillance on May 31st, 2023.

On Thursday June 15th, 2023 just after 9:00 p.m.  the suspect, driving the same vehicle, returned to the retail store and began loading shelving units into the van before being approached by store staff. The suspect left the area only to be located by police a short distance away.

As a result, a 47 year old Southwold resident has been arrested and charged with two counts of Theft over $5,000 in relation to both incidents.

The 47 year old was transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an undertaking.
