A 42 year old St. Thomas man has been charged with several offences after police were called about a possible impaired driver.
On Tuesday evening, just after 6:00 p.m. officers attended an address on the northside of city for the report of a person who appeared to be passed out behind the wheel, with the vehicle running. A description of the vehicle was provided to police.
Officers located the vehicle, still running with the accused behind the wheel. Officer woke the individual and had immediate concerns that he was impaired. A standard field sobriety test was conducted with a poor result and he was subsequently arrested for Impaired Operation.
Through investigation, officers learned the name and identification provided was not his. He was additionally charged with Obstruct Peace Officer and Failure to Comply with Probation.
Through further investigation, police learned the vehicle the man was located in had been previously reported stolen. As a result, he was additionally charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Failure to Comply with Probation.
The accused was transported to police headquarters, processed and held for a court appearance.
He was later released on an undertaking with a future court. ST25022339/22346
