On Saturday March 18th 2023 just before 9:00 PM St. Thomas Police were dispatched to a north end residence after receiving two separate 911 calls from the same location. Upon arrival, Police were assisting one of the complainants and while speaking with the involved parties, grounds were formed to arrest 31 year old James Bentley for assault.
After being informed of his arrest, Bentley began to resist, became combative and assaulted two officers. While officers attempted to control the male, 56 year old Linda Bentley obstructed and assaulted Police. Additional officers attended to assist in gaining control and complete the arrest.
Four St. Thomas Police officers were assaulted and injured as a result of this incident.
All four officers required treatment of their injuries. They were released from hospital and returned to duty.
As a result, 31 year old James Bentley has been charged with Assault, Assault Peace Officer x 2, and Resist Peace Officer.
56 year old Linda Bentley has been charged with Assault Peace Officer and Obstruct Peace Office.
Both James Bentley and Linda Bentley were processed and released with conditions and a future court date.
