Two individuals have been arrested and charged after a disturbance in the city, last night.
Just before 9:30 p.m. police received a call from a concerned citizen about an altercation in progress in a parking lot outside of police headquarters. Upon arrival, officers located the parties involved engaging in a fight.
Through investigation, officers learned the altercation started in a parking lot on Talbot Street when one of the parties involved drove their vehicle at another vehicle several times. Police learned of an ongoing dispute between the individuals, leading to the argument and disturbance.
The driver and passenger of the vehicle that had been damaged, drove to the area of police headquarters seeking assistance. The vehicle was followed by the involved party who, once stopped, exited their vehicle and started to assault the other driver.
Responding officers separated the individuals and through investigation, formed grounds to charge a 44 year old St. Thomas resident with Dangerous Operation and Assault. They were transported to STPS HQ where they were processed and held for a morning court appearance. ST25002795
While speaking with the individual that had been assaulted, officers were concerned they were impaired. A roadside screening device was administered, registering a fail. A 27 year old resident of New Hamburg was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where further testing confirmed the individual to be impaired by nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol. While being processed, the 27 year old was found to be in possession of a quantity of suspected cocaine. As a result, the individual was charged with Operation while Impaired Plus 80 and Possession of a Scheduled I Substance – Cocaine.
