Counterfeit Money – Community Alert

St. Thomas, ONThursday December 18th 2025

The St. Thomas Police Service is advising residents and local businesses of an increase in counterfeit currency being passed within the City of St. Thomas.

For the third time this week, police have been notified by a local business that a bill received during a cash transaction was later determined to be counterfeit. Investigations into these incidents are ongoing.

The St. Thomas Police Service is reminding community members and businesses to remain vigilant when accepting cash. Counterfeit bills may appear genuine at first glance but often lack standard security features such as raised ink, clear printing, and embedded security elements.

If you believe you have received counterfeit currency, do not return it to circulation. Please contact the St. Thomas Police Service to report the incident so the bill can be examined and the circumstances documented.
