Collision leads to impaired driving charge

A 28 year old St. Thomas resident has been charge with impaired driving after police were called to a motor vehicle collision on Sunset Drive last night.

Around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday May 2nd, St. Thomas Police were called to investigate the report of a driver who had driven a truck and trailer around a road closure sign and through a construction zone hitting a fenced off excavator that was blocking a 12 foot deep hole. As a result, the truck and the excavator were in the hole.

Upon police arrival the driver of the truck had extricated themselves with no apparent injuries.

Through further investigation police formed grounds to arrest the driver for one count Adult Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), one count Adult Drive on Closed Highway and one count Drive – Hand Held Device.

The 28 year old was transported to police headquarters, processed and released on an undertaking.
