Broad Record Checks Now Being Processed by STPS

The St. Thomas Police Service is advising the community that Exempted Broad Record Checks are now available through the St. Thomas Police Service website. Applications for this record check type must be initiated online and are not available through third party providers.

In January 2025, the Ontario government introduced a new police record check known as the Broad Record Check. This check was created to enhance the safety of children and young persons receiving services under the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA).

Individuals who are eligible to apply for a Broad Record Check are required to access and complete the fillable PDF application form available on the St. Thomas Police Service website. Once completed, the application must be submitted in person at the St. Thomas Police Service, located at 45 Caso Crossing.

For applicants who do not have access to a printer, Broad Record Check application forms are also available in person at the police station.

Submitting an Application in Person

Applicants must attend the St. Thomas Police Service in person, Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to submit their completed application. Two pieces of valid government issued identification are required. One piece must include the applicant’s name, photograph, address, and signature.

Acceptable forms of identification include:

  • Driver’s License

  • Status Card

  • Government Employment Card

  • International Student Card

  • Age of Majority Card

  • Firearms Acquisition Certificate

  • Military Employment Card

  • Ontario Photo Card

  • Canadian Citizenship Card

  • Canadian National Institute for the Blind Card (CNIB)

Fees and Payment

The cost of a Broad Record Check is $100. Payment may be made by cash, debit, or visa at the time of submission.
