Break and Enters Under Investigation

St. Thomas Police are investigating several break and enter incidents.

Police responded to a commercial break and enter on Churchill Avenue after a witness arriving at a nearby workplace observed the front window of a business had been smashed and heard noises coming from inside. The witness saw a male dressed in dark clothing exit the store carrying a blue bag and leave the area eastbound on Churchill Avenue. Officers attended and established a perimeter while a K9 track was conducted; however, the suspect was not located. ST26004037

Police also responded to a break and enter at a vacant residence on West Pearl Street. Officers attending the property observed that copper piping had been cut and removed and electrical wiring had been stripped from the home. The full extent of the loss has not yet been confirmed. ST26004056

In a separate incident, police were called to a residential property on East Street after a complainant discovered that storage units had been entered sometime between January 16 and March 9. The complainant reported that antique tools and a storage tote were missing. ST26004062

All incidents remain under investigation.

Theft Investigations

On Monday, police were contacted by staff at a retail store on Talbot Street after a male suspect was observed on store surveillance concealing merchandise inside a reusable shopping bag before leaving the store without paying. The theft occurred shortly before 3:00 p.m. and involved approximately $60 worth of merchandise. Surveillance footage is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. ST26004055

In a separate incident, police received a report that two bicycles had been stolen from the side of a residence on Simcoe Street sometime between March 4 and March 5. A BMX style bike with orange pedals and a foldable metallic blue bicycle with chrome accents have a combined value of approximately $1,500. This remains under investigation. ST26004061

Police also responded to a reported theft from an address on Princess Avenue after a complainant discovered that the bag containing the charger for their scooter had been stolen. Surveillance footage from the property identified a suspect. Officers later located and arrested a 34 year old St. Thomas man. Charged with Theft Under $5,000 he was processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST26004075/4090

Intimate Partner Violence

A 51 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested following an investigation of a historic intimate partner violence incident. Through investigation it was learned the accused has physically assaulted their former partner. Charged with one count of Assault, he was processed and released on an undertaking with a future date to attend court. ST26003842/4084
