Assault
We are also investigating an assault that took place outside our local movie theatre April 9th. The victim reported being grabbed by an unknown person and accused of throwing an item at their family during the movie. Video surveillance from the theater was obtained and the investigation continues. ST25005888
Theft/Recovery of Motor Vehicle
We are investigating allegations that a pick-up truck was stolen after initially being borrowed. On April 10th, police spoke with the victim who reported that the pick-up truck was leant to a friend but then was subsequently stolen from the friends possession. The vehicle was later recovered abandoned just north of the City. This matter has been turned over to members of our Criminal Investigation Branch for further investigation. ST25005824
Warrant Arrest
On April 10th, a 37 year old St. Thomas resident was arrested by Elgin OPP on an outstanding warrant for Assault with a Weapon and Utter Threats. The individual was transported to the St. Thomas police station where they were later released from custody with a future court date. ST25005857
Theft
In the early afternoon of April 10, we responded to a Talbot Street food market where a 36 year old St. Thomas resident concealed $110 worth of merchandise and left without paying. They were identified through store surveillance video and eventually arrested, charged and released with a future court date. ST25005858
A second similar theft was reported later that evening at a separate food market with-in the City. This time a 23 year old St. Thomas resident stole a nominal value of merchandise and was located a short distance away with the stolen product. It was learned that this individual had an outstanding bench warrant as well. They too were arrested, charged and released with a future court date. ST25005892
Break and Enter
We are investigating a break and enter into an apartment in the 300 block of Talbot Street on Aril 9th. The home owner returned to while they believed someone was in the apartment however the suspect fled out a rear window. Prescription medication appeared to be the target. The investigation is continuing as area CCTV and video surveillance is reviewed. Also, during the early morning hours of April 11th, we responded to a report of a Break and Enter to a Forest Avenue residence. It was learned that a door to the residence was forced open and then the suspect(s) fled. A perimeter was set up and our K9 unit attended the area however was unsuccessful. The investigation continues, as officers will be searching for video surveillance in the area. ST25005901
Impaired driver charged
During the late evening of April 10th, we stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. While speaking with the driver, the officer noticed that they were exhibiting signs of impairment. A Standard Field Sobriety Test was preformed by the driver, which they performed poorly. The driver subsequently completed tests submitted by a Drug Recognition Expert and it was believed they were impaired by a drug. The 31 year old St. Thomas resident was later released and charged with Operation while impaired, Drive motor vehicle with no licence and Disobey sign. ST25005895
