Additional Release, Frauds, Thefts, Warrants, Break and Enter and Failing to Comply

Frauds

St. Thomas Police are investigating a Fraud. A 65-year-old St. Thomas resident received a phone call from who they thought was their banking institution. The individual on the phone was able to transfer $3000 from the victim’s bank account. An internal investigation was completed by the bank, and some additional transactions pending were cancelled. The incident is still under investigation. ST25000761.

St. Thomas Police are investigating a Fraud. A 30-year-old St. Thomas resident was contacted by an individual who identified as an Amazon employee. The employee advised the victim, that there was fraudulent activity on their account. The so-called Amazon employee additionally put a lawyer on the phone and the pair used threats to convince the victim to withdraw $3800 in cash and deposit the money into a cryptocurrency machine, in 900$ increments. Once the victim completed the transactions, the individual attempted to get the victim to further purchase gift cards. At this time the victim ended the communication and contacted the police. Theft

Loss prevention at a downtown business contacted the St. Thomas Police, after observing an individual, select, conceal, and fail to pay for $150-$250 dollars’ worth of cosmetics. A 28-year-old St. Thomas resident was identified, charged and arrested for the theft. The individual was transported to Police Headquarters, processed and released with a future court date.ST25000844, ST25000881.

Media Release for Thursday, January 16, 2025

Warrant Arrests

A 22-year-old St. Thomas resident was arrested at the Elgin County Courthouse. The individual had an outstanding warrant for theft from an incident in December of 2024. The individual was processed and held for a court appearance. ST25000867, ST24021900.

On January 14th, 2025, St. Thomas Police were contacted by Chatham-Kent Police Service, regarding a 48-year-old London resident that was currently wanted for multiple serious criminal offences. The individual was known by CKPS to have associates in St. Thomas area. On Wednesday, January 16, 2025, St. Thomas Police Officer’s located the individual, but they fled on foot, at the sight of police. The individual was arrested after a short foot pursuit, transported, and held at Police Headquarters until Chatham-Kent Police Service attended. ST25000880.

A 38-year-old St. Thomas resident was arrested on an outstanding warrant. A local store had reported a theft to Police on the 22nd of December, 2024. The individual was observed on camera stealing over $300 dollars’ worth of merchandise. The individual was identified, arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing. The individual was later released with a future court date. ST25000906, ST24023023.

A 15-year-old St. Thomas resident, attended Police Headquarters to turn themselves in on an outstanding warrant for assault. The original incident took place on the 13th of January, 2025, when the victim was walking to school. The individual was arrested, processed and released with a future court date. Thefts

St. Thomas police attended a local retail store for a report of a theft. The suspect was captured on video stealing $80 dollars’ worth of merchandise. A photo went out on social media and to all officers for identification purposes. The individual was identified, and located a short time later. The 32-year-old St. Thomas resident was arrested, transported to Police Headquarters for processing, and held for a court appearance.  ST25000655, ST25000868.

St. Thomas police were contacted for assistance in removing an individual, refusing to leave an east end establishment. Upon arrival, and a query of the individual, it was discovered there was an outstanding warrant for theft under from the 10th of January, 2025.  The 31-year-old St. Thomas resident was arrested, transported to Police Headquarters for processing and released with a future court date. A St. Thomas resident from the city’s north end, attended the Police Station to report their e-bike stolen from the shed in their backyard. The e-bike is described as a pink two-seater, Monaco, and is still outstanding. ST25000890.

Fail to Comply

St. Thomas Police were called to a downtown business for an individual outside the store yelling. Upon arrival a 32-year-old St. Thomas resident, was found to be breaching his conditions, put in place only a couple days earlier, to not attend that address. The individual was arrested for failing to comply with an undertaking, transported to Police Headquarters, and held for a court appearance. ST25000873

Mischief

St. Thomas Police were called to a downtown construction site, when the security monitoring company was alerted to motion inside the building, and an individual was still inside. Police attending the area, quickly set up a perimeter, and K9 was called to complete a successful track of the suspect. A 40-year-old St. Thomas resident was charged accordingly, arrested, transported to Police Headquarters, and later released with a future court date. ST25000913.

Break and Enter

St. Thomas Police are investigating another break and enter into a north end business compound. A fence was damaged to gain entry. Two suspects were captured on camera stealing boxes of copper. The incident is still under investigation. ST25000884.
