A 53-year-old St. Thomas resident has fallen victim to a cell phone scam. An individual called the victim representing themselves as a Rogers employee offering a deal on a new cell phone. The victim purchased the phone and received it through the mail. The fake Rogers employee told the victim to send the phone back due to an error and a new one would be sent to them. The cell phone was kept by the scammer, used by another person and the victim is out the money for the new phone they never received. Ref# ST26018975
A 95-year-old St. Thomas resident fell victim to a scam. The suspect called the victim on the phone impersonating their grandson and stated that they were in another country, got into a car accident and needed money to stay out of jail. On our arrival, the suspect was belligerent with police and threw an open alcohol container at the officer striking him in the face. The suspect was arrested for mischief to the fire hydrant, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon as well as liquor and tobacco tax act offences.
