Theft Investigation Leads to Warrant Arrest
A 41 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested following a shoplifting investigation Wednesday afternoon. STPS were called to a Talbot Street business after loss prevention reported that a man had left the store with two cases of energy drinks without paying and boarded a city bus. Officers located the man on the bus with the stolen merchandise and arrested him for theft under $5,000. The merchandise, valued at approximately $59, was recovered and returned to the store.
Police confirmed the man was also wanted on several outstanding warrants.
He had been charged with:
- Three counts of Theft under $5,000
- Break and Enter
- Failure to Comply with Probation
The 41 year old was transported to police headquarters, processed to appear before the courts and was remanded into custody. ST26013444/3447
STPS are investigating after a trailer parked outside a Sunset Drive business was damaged Wednesday morning. At 6:15 a.m., an unknown individual attended the property and used a pole to strike the trailer, damaging two large side panels. The incident was captured on CCTV that has since been provided to police. The pole was located and recovered. This remains under investigation. ST26013431
Significant damage has been caused to air conditioning units at a Flora Street church. The damage was discovered after the units stopped working properly. A service technician later confirmed the units had been vandalized. The damage is estimated at approximately $20,000. ST26013435
Cryptocurrency Fraud
A St. Thomas resident has reported losing approximately $200,000 in a cryptocurrency investment fraud. On Wednesday, the victim reported receiving calls in April from individuals claiming to assist with cryptocurrency investing. After making a small initial investment and receiving a return, the victim transferred additional funds and was shown what appeared to be significant investment growth.
When the victim attempted to withdraw the funds, they were instructed to pay substantial transaction fees. The victim used savings, credit cards, lines of credit and loans to send approximately $200,000 through hundreds of transactions. ST26013468
Narcan Administered by Police
Officers administered Narcan after responding to a report of an unresponsive man lying on a sidewalk Wednesday evening. The man regained consciousness and was able to speak with police. ST26013486
Theft
A 12-pack of beer has been reported stolen from a convenience store on Talbot Street, early Thursday morning. At approximately 2:20 a.m., two youths selected the beer and left the store without paying. Video has been provided to police. ST26013507
Recovered Stolen Vehicle
A pickup truck reported stolen from St. Thomas on July 9th has been recovered by the London Police Service. The vehicle was located unoccupied Wednesday evening and was towed to a storage compound. The registered owner was contacted and provided with information to recover the vehicle. ST26013492/12934
