Fraud Investigations 

Two separate fraud related incidents were reported to police on Monday.

In the first incident, a resident reported sending an e-transfer for the purchase and delivery of landscaping stone. Despite ongoing communication, the product was never delivered. When the complainant requested a refund, communication stopped. ST26007987

In the second incident, a resident received a phone call from an unknown individual claiming to be a family member in custody who required money for release. The caller then directed the resident to send nearly $10,000 via e-transfer to an email address provided by a second individual posing as a police officer. The resident became suspicious shortly after the transfer and contacted their bank, who were able to cancel the transaction. No financial loss was incurred. ST26008006

Police continue to remind the public to be cautious when sending money electronically and to verify any urgent or unexpected requests for funds, especially those involving pressure or emotional appeals.

Intimate Partner Violence 

A 36 year old St. Thomas woman has been charged following an incident on Talbot Street, Monday morning. Officer were called to the area for the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival officers learned, the accused had broken the window of the residence to gain entry. Once inside, a physical altercation occurred resulting in minor injuries to the victim and damage to the property. As a result, the 36 year old has been charged with:

• Assault 
• Assault with a weapon 
• Criminal Harassment
• Break and Enter
• Mischief (two counts)
• Theft under $5,000

A warrant for her arrest has been requested. ST26007994

Warrant Arrest

A 51 year old Northumberland County man has been arrested. On Monday night, officers conducting traffic enforcement initiated a stop with a vehicle on Talbot Street. Through investigation, police learned the individual was wanted on an outstanding warrant with the Norfolk OPP. The 51 year old was arrested and custody was exchanged. ST26008048

Recovered Stolen Vehicle

A vehicle reported stolen earlier in April has been recovered.

A white 2017 GMC Acadia was reported stolen from a residential driveway on April 5th. Last night, STPS were contacted by the Chippewa Police Service who had located and recovered the vehicle. The licence plates associated to the vehicle remain outstanding. It has since been towed and the owner has been notified. ST26008049/5787
