Shoplifting Investigation Leads to Drug Trafficking Charges

A 35 year old St. Thomas woman is facing multiple charges following a shoplifting incident on Tuesday. At 12:15 p.m. police responded to a theft in progress at a business in the 1000-block of Talbot Street after staff reported a woman had stolen two pairs of boots valued at more than $500 before fleeing in a vehicle. The suspect vehicle was located a short time later and officers arrested the female suspect.

Police recovered the stolen merchandise and, during the investigation, also seized suspected cocaine, fentanyl, a digital scale, and packaging materials consistent with drug trafficking. The estimated street value of the seized drugs was approximately $2,270.

Charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl, she was processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST26008093/8097

Assault – Utter Threats

A 15 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested after police were called to a disturbance on Tuesday. Police attended a southside neighbourhood for the report of the accused threatening the occupants. Officers learned of an ongoing dispute involving the teen and the parties at the address. Through further investigation, officers formed grounds to charge the 15 year old with one count of Assault with a Weapon and one count of Uttering Threats. The teen was arrested, transported to police headquarters to be processed to appeared before the courts and remanded into custody. ST26008096

Theft

A 41 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested. On Tuesday, officers were called to a retail store on Talbot Street after an unknown man had failed to pay for a $70 bottle of liquor. A description of the individual was provided to police who arrived to find the suspect still in the parking lot of the store. Charged with Theft under $5,000, he was transported to police headquarters, processed and later released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST26008130

Attempted Bike Theft

St. Thomas Police are continuing to investigate an attempted bike theft involving a youth that occurred Tuesday afternoon. Just before 4 p.m. police received a report that a young male had been approached in the area of the Elgin County Railway Museum by an unknown male who attempted to take his bicycle. During the interaction, the suspect allegedly grabbed both the youth and the bicycle before a witness intervened. No injuries were reported. This remains under investigation. ST26008111/8118

Public Intoxication

A 16 year old Central Elgin teen has been charged with Public Intoxication. On Tuesday evening while on an unrelated call for service, officers located the teen intoxicated and trespassing on private property. Ticketed for Public Intoxication and served a Trespass Notice, the individual was transported to police headquarters and later released to their parent. ST26008132

Additional Charge Laid 

As a result of an ongoing investigation, a 36 year old St. Thomas woman has been additionally charged with Mischief after police received a report that she had caused $450 in damage to a BBQ. A warrant for her arrest has been requested. ST26008125

Warrant Arrests

A 42 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested. Charged with Criminal Harassment in September, he was located and arrested on Tuesday morning. Once processed at police headquarters, he was released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST26008068/ST25017091

A 43 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested. He had been charged with Driving while under Suspension during a traffic stop in February. Once processed at police headquarters, he was transported to the Elgin County Courthouse for a court appearance and provided a new date to attend. ST26008071/1834

A 42 year old St. Thomas woman has been arrested. On Tuesday, officers on community patrol located the individual known to them to be wanted by our service on an outstanding warrant for Assault Causing Bodily Harm, stemming from an incident in December. The individual was transported to police headquarters, processed and later released on an appearance notice with a future court. ST26008109/ST25022386

A 31 year old St. Thomas woman has been arrested. Early this morning, officers located the individual known to them to be wanted by our service on an outstanding warrant for Theft under $5,000 after being identified in a shoplifting incident in March. She was transported to police headquarters to be processed. A search incident to her arrest found a quantity of suspected Methamphetamine. The 31 year old was additionally charged with Possession of Schedule I Substance and held to attend court. ST26008137/8138/4890

A 16 year old Aylmer resident has been arrested. On Tuesday evening, officers located the teen at a Wellington Street address after the Aylmer Police Service issued grounds for Failure to Comply with Probation as the 16 year old is currently bound by a curfew and to remain at their residence. The individual was transferred to APS who continued the arrest. ST26008130

Fraud

A St. Thomas resident is out $175 after falling victim to a Marketplace scam. On Tuesday, the victim contacted police to report sending an e-transfer to the seller but never receiving the product purchased. Attempts to contact the seller after sending the money have been unsuccessful. This remains under investigation. ST26008117
