Theft
St. Thomas police are looking to identify the individual in the photo below after being called to a retail store to investigate a theft that had occurred. On Sunday March 3rd 2024, officers were attended the store to investigate the report of an unknown person entering the store and stealing a pair of Nike shoes. This remains under investigation. A 38 year old St. Thomas resident is wanted by police after being identified as the individual responsible for a theft that occurred from a retail store on Talbot Street on Sunday March 3rd 2024. Police were called to the store after loss prevention staff reported an unknown person entered the store and failed to pay for approximately $78 of merchandise. Police were able to identify the individual responsible and as a result the 38 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged with one count of Theft under $5,000. A warrant for arrest has been requested. ST24003460
RIDE
Approximately 100 vehicles were stopped and their drivers spoken to during a ride program in the city Saturday evening, with no infractions found. ST24003407
Break and Enter
St. Thomas police are currently investigating an attempted break and enter. On Sunday March 3rd 2024, officers were called to an apartment north of Talbot Street to investigate the report of damage to the entrance of the apartment. Through investigation it was learned that unknown individuals attended the address and made multiple attempts to enter, before leaving the area in a dark coloured SUV. This remains under investigation. ST24003410
Assault
A 41 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Sunday March 3rd 2024, officers were called to an address on the south side of the city for a disturbance. Upon arrival, police learned an argument between two parties known to each other had turned physical as the accused prevented the victim from leaving. As a result, the 41 year old was charged with one count of Assault and one count of Forcible Confinement. The St. Thomas resident was transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST24003412
A 34 year old St. Thomas resident is wanted by police after an investigation into an assault that occurred in February. On Sunday March 3rd 2024, police formed grounds to charge the 34 year old with one count of Assault, Mischief and Forcible Confinement. A warrant for arrest has been requested. ST24003454
Recovered stolen vehicle
On Sunday March 3rd 2024, just after 7:00 a.m. police were called by a concerned citizen wishing to report a vehicle had struck a tree in a neighbourhood on the north side of the city. Upon arrival, police located the vehicle in question with significant damage. Through investigation, police learned the vehicle had been stolen from a nearby address at some point in the overnight hours. This remains under investigation. ST24003414
Protecting yourself from fraud
In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect themselves and things to consider while online:
- Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
- Always verify the person you are corresponding with is legitimate
- No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App
- If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a family member or relative, hang up and call the number you have for them.
- No employer will ask you to invest your own money or purchase gift cards.
- Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself
And remember if it seems suspicious, it likely is.
