St. Thomas, ON – February 15th 2024
Within a matter of five hours, police have charged two St. Thomas residents with Impaired Operation in separate incidents overnight.
This morning, at approximately 12:20 a.m. a 9-1-1 call was received by an alert citizen who reported a possible impaired driver who was seen unsteady on their feet entering their vehicle and driving away.
Based on the information provided, police were able to locate the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Through investigation, police formed grounds that the driver was impaired by alcohol and a roadside screening device was administered, registering a fail. The 25 year old driver from St. Thomas was arrested and transported to police headquarters where further testing resulted in the individual being charged with one count Operation while Impaired plus 80. Just after 4 a.m. this morning, a 9-1-1 call was received by a concerned citizen reporting a possible impaired driver, who had stopped their vehicle in the middle of an intersection.
Thanks to the information provided, police were able to attend the intersection and locate the vehicle in question with its driver slumped behind the steering wheel. A standard field sobriety test was performed. As a result, the 33 year old St. Thomas resident was arrested and transported to police headquarters where additional testing was completed. The driver has been charge with Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, Operation while Impaired plus 80, having an open container of liquor ((LLCA 42(1)(a)) and an expired permit ((HTA 7(1)(a)) ST24002390
