RIDE

Approximately 145 drivers were spoken to during a RIDE check on Monday December 4th, 2023. STPS is happy to share no infractions were found. ST23021351

Warrant Arrests 

A 67 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday December 4th 2023, officers at the Elgin County Courthouse were dealing with the individual on an unrelated matter when they became aware of an outstanding warrant with our service, stemming from an incident in October where they were charged with Break and Enter and Mischief. The 67 year old was processed on the charges and released on an appearance notice with a future court date. ST23021355

A 29 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday December 4th 2023, officers on community patrol located the individual known to them to be wanted on an outstanding warrant with Stratford Police Service. The 29 year old was arrested and transported to police headquarters to be processed. Stratford Police provided the documents for release. ST23021367

A 51 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday December 4th 2023, the 51 year old attended police headquarters to turn themselves in on an outstanding warrant with our service stemming from an incident in November, where they were charged with Mischief. The individual was processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST23021369

A 36 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday December 4th 2023, officers were called to an address on the southside of the city for an unwanted person. Upon arrival, police located the individual known to them to be wanted on an outstanding warrant for Assault, stemming from an incident in November. The 36 year old was arrested and transported to police headquarters to be processed. The individual attended court and was released by the courts with a future court date. ST23021372

A 40 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday December 4th, 2023 officers were dealing with the individual on an unrelated matter when they became aware of an outstanding warrant with our service stemming from an incident in October, where they had been charged with Criminal Harassment. The 40 year old was processed and released on an appearance notice with a future court date. ST23021386

Failure to Comply 

A 44 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged. On Monday December 4th, 2023 officers were called to investigate the report of unwanted communication. Through investigation it was learned the 44 year old had breach their no contact order put in place after an incident in November. A warrant for arrest has been requested. ST23021378

Liquor License Control Act

A 25 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday December 4th, 2023 officers were responding to a call for service and while attending, were approached by the unknown male, unrelated to the call for service. The individual was heavily intoxicated and attempting to interfere with the officers ability to attend to the call for service. As a result, the 25 year old was arrested and charge with being intoxicated in a public place and transported to police headquarters to be processed and lodged in cells until sober. ST23021382

Assault

A 41 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged. On Monday December 4th, 2023 officers were called to investigate the report of an assault that had occurred. Through investigation, it was learned that a verbal altercation between two parties had escalated and became physical with the victim sustaining minor injuries. As a result, the 41 year old has been charged with one count of Assault. A warrant for arrest has been requested.  ST23021384

Theft

On Monday December 4th 2023, St. Thomas police were called to investigate the report of bike parts being stolen. Through investigation, it was learned the owner of the bike has secured it to a bike rack with a plan to return and fix a flat tire. When the owner returned, the bike had been stripped of its handle bars, brakes and brake lines. CCTV surveillance of the incident is currently being reviewed. This remains under investigation. Impaired Operation

As the result of a traffic stop in the early morning hours of Tuesday December 5th 2023, a 29 year old Malahide resident has been charged. The 29 year old has been charged with Operation while Impaired (80 plus) after failing a roadside screening. The individual was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters where further testing confirmed impairment. The Malahide resident was processed and released with a future court date. Protecting yourself from fraud

In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect yourself and things to consider while online:

  • Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
  • No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App or Telegram
  • No employer will ever pay you in crypto currency
  • No employer will ask you to invest your own money
  • Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself
