Mischief 

Two St. Thomas youth have been arrested. On Monday July 31st 2023, St. Thomas police were called to investigate the report of multiple windows being smashed at an apartment building in the north end of the city. Upon arrival, police were able to review security footage which showed the accused in several rooms throughout the building damaging property. While on scene, police located the two youth within the building and placed them under arrest. As a result:

A 17 year old youth has been charged with:

  • 1 count  Mischief over $5000
  • 1 count Being Intoxicated in Common Area of a Residence
  • 1 count Person under 19 Years Consuming Liquor

A 16 year old youth has been charged with:

  • 1 count  Mischief over $5000
  • 1 count Being Intoxicated in Common Area of a Residence
  • 1 count Person under 19 Years Consuming Liquor
  • 1 count Person Under 19 Years Possess Cannabis

The youth were transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an undertaking. ST23013628

RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere)

On Monday July 31st 2023, officers on community patrol conducted a RIDE program within the city.  Approximately 312 drivers were spoken to. Two roadside screenings were administered with no infractions found. ST23013618

Remanded

A 54 year old St. Thomas resident has been remanded into custody. On Monday July 31st 2023, the 54 year old attended police headquarters to turn themselves in on an outstanding warrant from an incident earlier in July where they were charged with failing to comply with a release order. The St. Thomas resident was processed and held for court, subsequently remanded by the courts. ST23013569

Fraud Investigation

The St. Thomas Police Service have entered into a fraud investigation after being contacted by a victim who, on Monday July 31st 2023, reported fraudulent charges to their bank account and a credit card being activated in their name. The victim became aware of the fraudulent activity only after receiving mail from the credit card company of which the new card was activated. This remains under investigation. ST23013580

Theft

$200 worth of lottery scratch tickets have been reported stolen. On Monday July 31st 2023, St. Thomas police were called to a local gas station to investigate the incident. Upon arrival police learned that an unknown person entered the retail store of the gas station and asked to use the phone. A short time later, after the employee performed their regular duties outside of the store he re-entered to find that the tickets had been stolen. A review of the on site CCTV showed the same person who used the phone was responsible for the theft. This remains under investigation. ST23013619
