STPS Media Release – Saturday, November 15th.

We attended a vacant residence on Wellington Street regarding a break and enter. Officers observed a back door to the house had been kicked in and suspects stole copper pipe and wiring. Ref# ST25020864

We arrested a 40-year-old St. Thomas resident at the Elgin County Courthouse on the strength of a St. Thomas Police arrest warrant. This individual was later released with a future court date. Ref# ST25020869

A 34-year-old St. Thomas resident turned themself in on an existing St. Thomas Police arrest warrant. The warrant existed for theft and mischief offences, and the individual was held in custody for a court appearance at the Elgin County Courthouse. Ref# ST25020876

We are investigating two shoplifting offences involving the same vehicle at two separate retail stores. Suspects stole $1891 in perfume and gift boxes from the first location and approximately $3000 worth of power tools from the second location. Both incidents remain under investigation by our Property Crime Unit. Ref# ST25020879/ST25020902

We are investigating a stolen vehicle from the north west area of the city. The victim reports that their black 2002 GMC Sonoma pickup truck bearing Ontario license plate BB80583 was stolen from their apartment parking lot. The vehicle was taken from the scene by two men loading the vehicle onto a trailer utilizing a winch. Ref# ST25020883

We are investigating the theft of an Amazon package from the front porch of a residence in the south end of the city. The package was delivered by an Amazon delivery person, and when the homeowner returned home, the pack was gone. Ref# ST25020890

We are investigating the theft of liquor from a retail store located in the 1010 Talbot Street business park. Two separate occurrences where suspects stole a 60oz bottle of whiskey worth $70, and a separate incident where two bottles of vodka worth $90 were taken. Police are waiting on video to support the investigation. Ref# ST25020892

We are investigating a shoplifting incident from a retail store located in the 1010 Talbot Street business park. Suspect entered the store and stole $20-30 worth of grocery items and fled the store making no attempt the pay for the items. Ref# ST25020903

We arrested and charged a 59-year-old St. Thomas resident with assault following a police investigation at a residence near the core of the city. The accused was later released with a future court date and conditions. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault. Ref# ST25020910

Protecting yourself from fraud

In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect yourself and things to consider while online:

  • Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
  • No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App or Telegram
  • No employer will ever pay you in crypto currency
  • No employer will ask you to invest your own money
  • Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself
