STPS Media Release – Sunday, May 10th.

On Friday morning near 8am, we arrested and charged a 36-year-old Aylmer resident with breaching a condition of their undertaking during a traffic stop with officers. The suspect was later released by police with a new court date and conditions. Ref# ST26008287

On Friday morning at approximately 9:30am we attended an encampment in the Victor Drive and Chester Street area. On arrival police arrested a 59-year-old St. Thomas resident on the strength of a St. Thomas Police arrest warrant. This individual was held in custody for a court appearance. Ref# ST26008291

A 78-year-old St. Thomas resident attended the police station to report a fraud. The complainant advised police that in 2007, a credit card was fraudulently obtained in his name and a debt of $10000 was accrued and never paid off. Police provided the complainant with contact information for Equifax Canada and Transunion Canada for further reporting. Ref#ST26008317

A white Isuzu truck that had been reported stolen in St. Thomas last week was located and recovered in London in the industrial area. The vehicle appears undamaged, towed to a secure compound and the owner has been notified. Ref#ST26008311

We attended an address at the south end of the city regarding a disturbance involving teenagers. One individual was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and held in police cells until sober the next morning. This individual was later released after being issued a provincial offences notice for being intoxicated in a public place contrary to the Liquor License Control Act. Ref# ST26008363

The London Police Service arrested a 45-year-old London resident on the strength of a St. Thomas Police arrest warrant. This individual was transferred to St. Thomas Police custody and held in police cells for a morning court appearance. Ref# ST26008393

We arrested a 37-year-old St. Thomas resident on the strength of a St. Thomas Police arrest warrant. This individual was held in custody for a morning court appearance. Ref# ST26008397

We arrested a 36-year-old St. Thomas resident on the strength of a St. Thomas Police arrest warrant. This individual was later released by police with conditions and a future court appearance. Ref# ST26008399

We attended a south end business regarding an assault. As a result, two St. Thomas residents have been charged with assault and a third individual has been charged with assault as well as assault with a weapon. There were no serious injuries as a result of the assault. Ref# ST26008411

We received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a possible impaired driver at the south end of the city. Officers located the vehicle with both front seat passengers asleep and an open liquor bottle, and drug paraphernalia in plain view. The 42-year-old driver was arrested for impaired driving and brought to the police station where they completed tests administered by a drug recognition expert. The individual passed the drug evaluation, but was charged with possession of a controlled substance to wit cocaine. This person was later released by police with conditions and a future court date. Protecting yourself from fraud

In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect yourself and things to consider while online:

  • Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
  • No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App or Telegram
  • No employer will ever pay you in crypto currency
  • No employer will ask you to invest your own money
  • Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself
