STPS Media Release – Saturday, May 9th

The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad arrested a 40-year-old St. Thomas resident on reasonable and probable grounds for multiple criminal offences including fraud and breaching conditions of a probation order. This individual was later released by police with a future court date and conditions. Ref# ST26008296

We arrested and charged a 36-year-old St. Thomas resident with shoplifting, obstruct police(providing a false name) and breaching a condition of a probation order after receiving a call from a local retail store in the 1010 Talbot Street shopping centre. This individual was held in custody for a court appearance. Ref# ST26008303

We arrested a 60-year-old St. Thomas resident on the strength of two St. Thomas Police arrest warrants. This individual was later released with a future court date. Ref# ST26008308

We are investigating a theft from a retail store located at the 1063 Talbot Street shopping plaza. A suspect entered the store and stole $31.12 worth of product before exiting the store making no attempt to pay for the products. This remains under investigation. Ref# ST26008329

We are investigating a theft from a retail store on Talbot Street where a suspect stole $150.00 worth of meats and cheeses. This individual exited the store making no attempts to pay for the product. The suspect entered a motor vehicle and left the area. Ref# ST26008333

We received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a disturbance near Curtis and Mary Street. Through investigation, a 37-year-old Aylmer resident is being charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats to death x2, theft not exceeding $5000, failing to comply with a release order x3, and four counts of breach of probation. We are investigating the theft of a bicycle from the area of Curtis Street. The bicycle is described as a blue, white and lime green, 24 speed, GT Pro Aggressor mountain bike with 27.5 inch wheels. Please see attached photo. Ref# ST26008347

We are investigating a theft from a retail store located in the 1010 Talbot Street shopping plaza. The suspect stole deli meat and cat food valued at $30. The suspect exited the store making no attempt the pay for the items. Investigation continuing. Ref# ST26008350

Protecting yourself from fraud

In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect yourself and things to consider while online:

  • Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
  • No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App or Telegram
  • No employer will ever pay you in crypto currency
  • No employer will ask you to invest your own money
  • Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself
