STPS media release for August 6th 2023

Arson

In the early morning hours of August 5th 2023, STPS was contacted by the St. Thomas Fire Department to attend a downtown address for a suspicious fire. Upon Police arrival, the fire had been extinguished and no one was around. The building in question suffered damage however was vacant at the time. It was determined that the fire appeared to have been set intentionally and therefore Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Branch have since taken over the investigation. If you or anyone you know has any information in relation to this incident, please contact STPS at 519-631-1224 or submit a tip anonymously through Crimestoppers and refer to incident ST23013892

Impaired Operation

STPS was contacted last night for a possible impaired driver parked at a local store. Upon arrival, Officers located the vehicle in the lot with the 53 yr old female driver still inside. Through investigation, Officers formed reasonable suspicion that the female had care & control of the vehicle with alcohol in her body. She was administered a roadside device which showed she had over the legal limit therefore was arrested and brought back to the STPS station for further testing which confirmed this. She was subsequently lodged in cells and later released with a future court date. ST23013919
