Multiple charges following a traffic stop

Two people are in custody following a traffic stop on Tuesday September 26th, 2023. At approximately 3:30 p.m. St. Thomas police received a call in regard to a suspicious U-Haul in the area of Wellington Street and Ross Street that was missing a large portion of its windshield. Police attended the area and were able to locate the U-Haul and its occupants, a short distance away. A traffic stop was conducted and as a result:

A 39 year old, of no fixed address has been charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x 6
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order
  • Obtaining by False Pretense
  • Obstruct Peace Officer

A 40 year old, of no fixed address has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance (Methamphetamine)
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance (Opioid)
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance (Cocaine)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x 3
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order x 2
  • Driving while under Suspension
  • Drive motor vehicle – no license
  • Operate unsafe vehicle

Both parties were arrested and transported to police headquarters where they were processed and held for court. ST23017148

Assault

A 41 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Tuesday September 26th, 2023 St. Thomas police were called to a retail store on Talbot Street to investigate the report of an assault that had occurred after an employee of the store attempted to stop a theft. Through investigation, it was learned that the employee stopped the shoplifter and recovered the stolen items but was subsequently punched in the face, sustaining minor injuries. Police were able to identify the accused and located them a short distance away. As a result, the St. Thomas resident has been charged with one count Assault and one count Theft under $5,000. The 41 year old was transported to police headquarters where they were processed and held for court, later released by the courts. ST23017131

Bail Violations 

A 58 year old London resident has been charged with Failure to Comply with Undertaking after STPS were notified of unwanted communication. The 58 year old is on conditions to not communicate with the complainant after an incident on September 24th, 2023. A warrant has been requested. ST23017162
