Intimate partner violence
A 38 year old St. Thomas man has been arrested following an intimate partner violence investigation. Police attended a St. Thomas residence on Tuesday evening after receiving a report of a dispute in progress. Officers separated the involved parties and determined that an assault had occurred. The accused was arrested and charged with one count of Assault. He was transported to police headquarters, processed and held to attend court. ST26017890
Theft Investigations
Police are investigating the theft of several power cables from a construction site on Joyce Street. The cables were last known to be at the site at approximately 4 p.m. on Monday. When workers returned the following day, they discovered the cables were missing and that a cable connected to a water pump had been cut and removed. Police are investigating after a vehicle permit was stolen from a vehicle parked in a gravel parking lot near Station Street and Kains Street. The vehicle was parked at approximately 6 p.m. on Monday. When the owner returned the following day, they discovered a window had been left open and the permit was missing. ST26017855
Police are investigating the theft of two packages from the front porch of a residence on Tuesday afternoon. The packages, with a combined value of approximately $115, were taken at approximately 2:30 p.m. Video surveillance has been provided to police. ST26017859
A 34 year old man has been charged following a shoplifting investigation. On Tuesday, police were contacted by staff at a Talbot Street retail store after a man left the business without paying for approximately $284 in merchandise. Officers located the suspect who was arrested and charged with one count of Theft under $5,000. He transported to police headquarters and held for a morning court appearance. ST26017874
Police are investigating after a bicycle was reported taken from a patio on downtown. The bicycle had been loaned to another person for the night before it was discovered missing. Video surveillance is being reviewed. ST26017886
Warrant Arrest
A 47 year old man has been arrested on an outstanding warrant stemming from an investigation into repeated, prohibited communication. Police began investigating in August after receiving a report that the accused had repeatedly contacted a person he was prohibited from communicating with while in custody. As a result of the investigation, police formed grounds to charge the man with four counts of Failure to Comply with a Probation Order and one count of Breaching a Non-Communication Order while serving a sentence. The accused was arrested on Tuesday, September 15th and remains in custody. ST26016185/17827
A 28 year old man attended police headquarters on Tuesday to turn himself in on an outstanding warrant. The individual has been charged with Theft Under $5,000 after beer was stolen from a Talbot Street business in June. Once processed, he was released with a future court date. ST26010838/17870
Fraud
Police are investigating after a St. Thomas resident reported losing close to $900 in a phone scam. The victim received a call from someone claiming to represent a phone company. The caller falsely stated that the victim’s bank account had been compromised and requested personal and financial information. After the information was provided, the caller gained access to the victim’s online banking and removed funds from the account. ST26017834
Failure to Comply
Police are investigating a possible breach of a release order following a notification from an electronic monitoring company. On Tuesday, police were advised that a person being monitored by GPS may have attended a St. Thomas business they are prohibited from visiting. Video surveillance has been provided to police.
