Mischief

St. Thomas police are currently investigating an incident where a Mastercraft lock at a job site under construction, had been cut. The incident occurred sometime over the weekend and was found by an employee on Monday November 27th 2023. No other damage was reported. ST23020925

A building on Wellington Street has been damaged. While on community patrol on Monday November 27th 2023, officers noticed red graffiti had been used on two of the buildings exteriors walls. Police spoke with on site staff who shared the damage occurred sometime over the weekend. This remains under investigation. ST23020927

Assault with a weapon 

A 23 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday November 27th 2023, officers were called to a family disturbance. Upon arrival it was learned that a family argument had escalated and turned physical. Through investigation, police formed grounds to charge a 23 year old with one count Assault with a Weapon. The individual was transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST23020929

Neighbour dispute lead to charges

Four St. Thomas residents have been charged with Assault after police were called to a disturbance in the city’s west end on Monday November 27th 2023. Just before 1 p.m. police were called to attend an physical altercation in progress. Upon arrival, police learned an neighbourhood dispute had escalated resulting in the assault of an individual. Two people were arrested at the scene and two later attended police headquarters to turn themselves in.

As a result, a 28 year old St. Thomas resident, a 55 year old St. Thomas resident, a 31 year old St. Thomas resident and a 32 year old St. Thomas resident have been charged with Assault. All four were processed on their charges and released on an undertaking with a future court date. The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene by EMS. ST23020939

Theft

St. Thomas police are currently investigation a theft. On Monday November 27th 2023, officers were called by an employee of a downtown grocery store who reports two unknown individuals entered the store, concealed an quantity of chocolate in their coats and left the store making no attempt to pay. Police are currently reviewing the available video surveillance and continue to investigate. ST23020932

Fraud

St. Thomas police are currently investigating a credit card fraud. On Monday November 27th 2023, a St. Thomas resident attended police headquarters to report fraudulent charges to their credit card. The victim reports after contacting the credit card company in regard to an unauthorized charge to their card, they learned an additional card had been issued to an address and location unrelated to them. The credit card company has since cancelled all cards in the victims name and the St. Thomas Police Service’ Criminal Investigation Branch are continuing to investigate. ST23020945

Protecting yourself from fraud

In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect yourself and things to consider while online:

  • Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
  • No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App or Telegram
  • No employer will ever pay you in crypto currency
  • No employer will ask you to invest your own money
  • Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself
