Media Release Tuesday February 14th 2023

Arson

On Monday February 13th, 2023 just before 9:00 AM St. Thomas Police were contacted by the St. Thomas Fire Department regarding a fire in a black bin outside of a residence in the south end of the City.  Investigation revealed that the fire was intentionally set and deemed an arson. Theft

On Monday February 13th, 2023 around 11:30 AM St. Thomas Police were called to a local grocery store for the theft of approximately $134 in meat. Through investigation and review of video surveillance,  STPS were able to identify the suspect. A warrant has been issued for a 32 year old St. Thomas woman. ST23002371

On Monday February 13th, 2023 at approximately 1:30 PM St. Thomas Police were called to investigate the theft of an e-bike from a residence in the south end of the City.  The bike is described as all black with a blue bell. Warrants 

On Monday February 13th, 2023 a 38 year old Port Stanley resident turned himself into Police on outstanding driving related warrants. He was processed and released with a future court date. ST23002373

On Monday February 13th, 2023 a 40 year old St. Thomas resident was arrested by Elgin County OPP.  The accused was turned over to the St. Thomas Police for processing of outstanding warrants with our service for Assault, Bail Violations and Mischief. They were processed without incident and released with a future court date. ST23002383

Vehicle Entry 

Sometime in the overnight hours of Saturday February 11th 2023 a vehicle parked in the parking lot of an apartment building in the north end of the City was entered.  The vehicle had been rummaged through. The St. Thomas Police Service are reminding the community to lock their vehicles and take valuables inside. ST23002387

Impaired

On Monday February 13th 2023 shortly after 5:00 PM a 39 year old St. Thomas male was arrested for impaired driving offences.  Officers on Community Patrol were called to a local business on Talbot Street after reports of an intoxicated party who had driven themselves to the retail store. As a result, the driver was located and taken into custody without incident and transported to the Colin McGregor Building for processing. The driver registered a blood alcohol level of two times the legal limit and has been charged with 1 count of Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs and 1 count of Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).  He will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days and a driving suspension of 90 days was given. ST23002389

Dirt Bike Recovered

On Monday February 13th 2023 Officers on community patrol recovered the florescent yellow Suzuki RMZ 250 dirt bike valued at $15,000, that was first reported stolen yesterday. ST23002357/ST23002406
