Media Release Tuesday December 12th 2023

Assault

A 38 year old Leamington resident has been arrested. On Monday December 11th 2023, police were called to attend a disturbance at an address on Talbot Street. Upon arrival, it was learned an argument between two parties known to each other had escalated, resulting in damage to property and an assault. The accused had left the area prior to police arrival but was quickly located by OPP in Leamington and was arrested. The 38 year old has been charged with one count Mischief and one count Assault Cause Bodily Harm. The individual was transferred to St. Thomas police custody and transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST23021759

A 41 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday December 11th 2023, officers responded to a 911 call for a break and enter in progress. Upon arrival, police learned the accused, who was on release conditions to not attend the address of the call, entered the home and assaulted the victim.  The 41 year old had left the area prior to police arrival. STPS located the individual a short distance away and took them into custody. As a result, the 41 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged with:

  • Two counts Assault Causing Bodily Harm
  • One count Assault
  • One count Assault with a Weapon
  • Two counts Mischief under $5,000
  • One count Theft under $5,000
  • One count Failure to Comply with Probation Order

The St. Thomas resident was processed on the charges, appeared before the courts and was remanded into custody. ST23021760

Break and Enter

St. Thomas police are currently investigating a break and enter at an address on Flora Street. On Monday December 11th 2023, officers were called by employees of a contracting company who wished to report that there was an unknown individual on site, stealing items. The suspect had left the area prior to police arrival, with the stolen items located a short distance away. This remains under investigation. ST23021761

Arrested

A 35 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday December 11th 2023, officers on community patrol were interacting with the individual who wished to be processed on their outstanding probation warrant. The 35 year was arrested and transported to police headquarters to be processed and was released on an appearance notice. ST23021772

A 38 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday December 11th 2023, officers at the Elgin County Court House were dealing with the individual on an unrelated matter when they became aware of an outstanding warrant with our service for two counts of Theft under $5,000, Failure to Comply with Release Order and Failure to Comply with Probation. The 38 year old was arrested and processed on the charges. They were released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST23021775

A 17 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday December 11th 2023, officers were notified of the location of the 17 year old who was wanted by police after breaching their release conditions put in place after an arrest over the weekend. The youth was charged with two counts of Failure to Comply with Sentence and Failure to Comply with Release Order. The individual was transported to police headquarters where they were processed to attend court. As a result of their court appearance, the 17 year old was remanded into custody. ST23021776

A 38 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Monday December 11th 2023, officers were interacting with the individual on an unrelated matter when they became aware of an outstanding warrant with our service stemming from a incident in August. The individual had failed to attend on their court date. Officers arrested the 38 year old, processing the warrant and issuing a new court date. ST23021792

Theft

St. Thomas police are currently investigating a theft that occurred at a northside convenience store. On Monday December 11th 2023, an unknown person entered the store, selected approximately $30 of merchandise and left without paying.  Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual seen here:

STPS are currently investigating a theft that occurred from a retail store on Talbot Street. On Monday December 11th 2023, police were called by loss prevention staff who wished to reports an unknown person entered the store, selected several toys and then left the store making no attempt to pay. The suspect is described as wearing a grey hoodie and camo pants and was last seen leaving the area on foot. Officers are reviewing video of the incident as they continue to investigate. ST23021765

A 27 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged. On Monday December 11th 2023, officers were called to a Talbot Street convenience store to investigate the report of a theft that had occurred. Upon arrival, police learned an individual had attended the store, selected a various merchandise before leaving the store without paying. Officers reviewed video surveillance of the incident and identified the 27 year old St. Thomas resident as the person responsible for the theft. As a result, the individual has been charged with three counts of Theft under $5,000. A warrant has been requested. ST23021821

Protecting yourself from fraud

In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect yourself and things to consider while online:

  • Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
  • No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App or Telegram
  • No employer will ever pay you in crypto currency
  • No employer will ask you to invest your own money
  • Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself
