Media Release Thursday March 2 2023

Impaired Driving 

On Thursday March 2nd 2023 just after 2:30 AM St. Thomas Police conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle being driven in an unsafe manner. Upon speaking with the driver, Officers discovered he was impaired by alcohol. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Police Headquarters. Testing indicated the driver had approximately 2 and a half times the legal limit of alcohol in his system. As a result, a 21 year old Aylmer man has been charged with 1 count Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus and 1 count Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs. The man was later released on an Undertaking and will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges. ST23003315

Stunt Driving

On Wednesday March 1st 2023 St. Thomas Police were dispatched to the area of Fairview Ave and Southdale Line for a single motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival, STPS located a car in the ditch with the driver inside. Through investigation it was learned that the driver had lost control of his vehicle after performing a burn out. As a result, a 19 year old St. Thomas man has been charged with 1 count Drive Motor Vehicle – perform stunt. He received a 30 day license suspension and his vehicle impounded for 14 days. ST23003289

Domestic Assault

On Wednesday March 1st 2023 St. Thomas Police were called to take a report of an alleged domestic assault that had taken place.  The investigation resulted in a 27 year old St. Thomas female being arrested and charged with 2 counts of Failure to Comply with Release Order. The female was transported to Police Headquarters to be processed. She was later released on an undertaking. A 33 year old St. Thomas man was charged with 1 count of Spousal Assault,  1 count of Assault Causing Bodily Harm and 2 counts of Failure to Comply with Release Order. A warrant has been requested for his arrest. ST23003271

Tricycle Recovered

On Wednesday March 1st 2023 just before 6:30 PM while dealing with an unrelated matter, St. Thomas Police located the Tricycle that was reported stolen, yesterday. (ST23003290) STPS were able to return it to the owner. ST23003292

Bike Theft 

On Wednesday March 1st 2023 St. Thomas Police were contacted to take a report of bike theft that had occurred overnight. Thanks to residential cameras, the home owner was able to capture video of a suspect entering their yard and stealing a red and black Hussy mountain bike. STPS were able to identify a 32 year old, St. Thomas man. He is subsequently charged with 1 count Theft under $5,000. A warrant has been requested for his arrest. ST23003241

Theft and Arrest

On Wednesday March 1st 2023 St. Thomas Police responded to a theft that had occurred downtown. It was reported that a contractor’s vehicle had been entered while work was being done inside a Talbot Street location. Reported stolen was a large sum of cash and a wallet containing personal identification, credit and debit cards. Thanks to the quick response of our Officers on community patrol, video surveillance was reviewed and assisted in identifying and locating a 28 year old St. Thomas woman. She was arrested and transported to Police Headquarters to be processed. She is charged with 1 count Theft under $5,000, 1 count Possession Property Obtain by Crime Under $5,000 and 1 count Adult Use of Credit Card. STPS were able to recover and return the victim’s cash and wallet. ST23003260

Theft

On Tuesday February 28th, 2023 St. Thomas Police were called to a local retail store to take a report of theft after a bottle of cologne valued at $167.00 was stolen. It was reported that the accused placed the cologne in his sweater pocket before being questioned by staff at the store. The accused exchanged words with the staff member before exiting the store, making no attempt to pay. As a result,  a 44 year old Central Elgin man is charged with 1 count Theft Under $5000.00. A warrant for his arrest has been requested. ST23003273

Warrants 

On Wednesday March 1st 2023 St. Thomas Police attended the Aylmer Police Service after being notified that they had a 34 year old St. Thomas woman in their custody on the strength of a warrant issued by STPS for Breach of Probation. St. Thomas Police executed our warrant and provided release documents. ST23003300

On Wednesday March 1st 2023 St. Thomas Police were called to a local restaurant after receiving a call in relation to a person who was known to be wanted by Police. Upon arrival, Officers were able to locate and arrest a 33 year old St. Thomas woman for 1 count Theft Under $5,000. She was arrested without incident and transported to Police Headquarters where she was processed and released on an undertaking. ST23003313
