Media Release Monday October 28th 2024

Impaired Operation

As the result of a traffic stop, a 35 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday October 27th 2024, officers observed a vehicle on the northside of the city being driven in an erratic and unsafe manner. A traffic stop was initiated. While speaking with the driver of the vehicle, a strong smell of alcohol was detected. The driver was arrested and transported to police headquarters where testing resulted in readings of 340ml/100 and 350ml/100; nearly four and half times the legal limit. The 35 year old was charged Operation while Impaired and Operation while Impaired plus 80, processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST24019570

Assault 

A 15 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. The teen had been charged with Assault and Utter Threats following an investigation into an incident reported to police on Friday afternoon. On Sunday October 27th 2024, the 15 year old was arrested and processed and later released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST24019401

A 40 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Sunday October 27th 2024, the individual attended police headquarters to turn themselves in after being charged with Assault and Mischief stemming from an investigation into several incidents dating back to July of 2023. The 40 year old was processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST24019568

St. Thomas police are currently investigating the report an assault that occurred at a retail store on Talbot Street. On Sunday October 27th 2024, police were called to the store by an employee who had been assaulted while trying to stop an unknown individual from leaving the store with merchandise they hadn’t paid for. Police are reviewing available video surveillance of the incident as they continue to investigate. ST24019586

RIDE 

St. Thomas police are pleased to announce that of the 200 vehicles that were stopped and their drivers spoken to during a RIDE program in the city on Sunday, no infractions or concerns were reported. STPS wishes to thank the community for continuing to drive safe and sober. ST24019565

Break and Enter 

St. Thomas police are currently investigating the report of break and enter. On Sunday October 27th 2024, officers were called to a business in the industrial area of the city to investigate the report of several storage trailers on the property being enter. It was reported that just before 1:00 a.m. on Sunday October 27th 2024, the locks had been cut allowing access to trailers. Video surveillance of the incident is being reviewed as police continue to investigate. ST24019572

Mischief 

A 23 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Sunday October 27th 2024, officers were called to business in the 900 block of Talbot Street to investigate the report on an unknown individual who had attended the front of the business and kicked a hole in the glass window. Officer located the individual responsible a short distance away and took them into custody. The 23 year old was charged with one count of Mischief and one count of Failure to Comply with Probation. The individual was processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST24019574

Recovered Tractor Trailer 

A stolen tractor trailer has been recovered in the Niagara Region. On Sunday October 27th 2024, officers were called to an address on Dennis Road to investigate the report of a stolen commercial vehicle. Through investigation, officers learned that three unknown individuals were observed on surveillance video gaining access to a locked compound of the business. The suspects then gained access to the locked tractor trailer and left the area. A GPS tracker, installed on the commercial vehicle was being traced to an address in the Niagara Region. With the assistance of the NRPS, the vehicle was located and recovered. This remains under investigation. ST24019589

Theft

Three small appliances and an electric scooter have been reported stolen from a retail store on Talbot Street. On Sunday October 27th 2024, officers were called to the store to investigate the report on an unknown individual leaving through an emergency exit at the back of the store, failing to pay for the items. Police are reviewing available images of the individual responsible as they continue to investigate. ST24019592
