Media Release Friday March 31st 2023

Theft

On Thursday March 30th, 2023 St. Thomas Police were called to a retail store to investigate a shoplifting incident. Through investigation it was learned that a male and female entered the store and filled their cart with approximately $1,000 worth of merchandise before leaving the store making no attempt to pay. The female is described as having long black hair, wearing a grey shirt and black coat. The male is described as approximately 50 years old, wearing a brown toque, brown sweater and dark pants. The pair were seen leaving in a white Chevrolet SUV. Through further investigation, it was learned that the female suspect in question was confronted by a loss prevention officer during an incident of attempted theft on March 24th, 2023. STPS are reviewing video surveillance and continuing to investigate. ST23005009/ST23005013

On Thursday March 30th, 2023 in a similar incident, St. Thomas Police were called to a different retail store in the city to investigate a shoplifting incident. Through investigation it was learned that a male and female entered the store, loading a shopping cart with approximately $1,000 worth of merchandise before leaving the store making no attempt to pay. Staff were able to confront the pair and retrieve the cart however the suspect left on foot. STPS are reviewing video surveillance and continuing to investigate. ST23005019

Warrant 

On Thursday March 30th, 2023 St. Thomas Police were called to move along an unwanted party from an address in the downtown area. Upon arrival, Officers recognized a female known to have an outstanding warrant with our service for 2 counts of Theft under $5,000 and 1 count of Assault. As such, the 32 year old female was arrested and transported to Police Headquarters, where she was processed and released with a future court date. ST23005001

On Friday March 31st 2023, Officers on community patrol located a 40 year old St. Thomas female who was wanted by our service for 1 Count of Assault, 1 count Failure to Comply, 1 Count Mischief under $5,000 and 1 count Enter Premises where Prohibited. The female was arrested without incident and transported to Police Headquarters where she was held for court. ST23005055

Vehicle Entry 

On Thursday March 30th 2023, a local resident attended Police Headquarters to report their vehicle being entered sometime overnight while it was parked in a parking lot on Ross Street. Reported stolen is a case of Gatorade, a pair of prescription glasses and a fanny pack.  ST23004995

Failure to Comply 

On Friday March 31st, 2023 St. Thomas Police were contacted by the OPP in regards to a description of a vehicle and person they were trying to locate on a warrant held by the Woodstock Police Service. At approximately 5:20AM,  Officers on community patrol located the vehicle and the wanted party. As a result, a 27 year old St. Thomas male is charged with:

  • 1 count Failure to comply with undertaking
  • 2 counts Failure to comply with release order
  • The accused is further charged with 4x driving while under suspension

The accused was taken  into custody, processed and held for court.

Assault

On Thursday March 30th, 2023 St. Thomas Police were contacted through a 911 call to respond to the report of an assault. Through investigation, STPS formed grounds to charged a 44 year old St. Thomas female with 1 count of Assault and 2 counts of Assault with a Weapon. The female was taken into custody and transported to Police Headquarters where she was held for court ST23005037
