Shoplifter
At approximately 10:45pm on August 30th, a female attended a local business and store $50 of merchandise. The female was approached by a store employee but refused to stop. Attempt Theft of Motor Vehicle
Shortly after 6am on September 1st, three unknown parties attempted to steal a motorcycle parked in a drive way of a residence near the downtown core. An audible alarm scared the suspects away. The incident was captured by the resident’s security cameras. Overdose
Early in the morning on September 1st, police responded to an address in the north end of the City for reports of an overdose. Police arrived to find a 28 year old female unresponsive. The female was administered several doses of Narcan and EMS personnel were eventually able to obtain a pulse. The female was transported to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital where she was admitted for further medical care. ^15559
Bicycle Theft
During the early afternoon on September 1st, a St. Thomas resident parked their bicycle outside of a business in the 1000 block of Talbot St. The suspect was captured by the store’s video surveillance. The bicycle is a blue and grey Supercycle. Vehicle Entry/ Mischief
Sometime overnight on August 31st, an unknown person smashed the window of a vehicle parked in a driveway of a south end home. The suspect stole a backpack containing miscellaneous items. Scam Alert
On September 1st, a St. Thomas resident fell victim to a scam and is out $3000. The victim received an email from his boss requesting him to purchase six $500 gift cards and then to provide the card security codes to him via email. After completing the task, the victim realized the email address was not his boss’s after all. The cards have since been used in the United Kingdom and in Hong Kong. These types of scams are growing increasingly popular. The STPS reminds the community to educate their loved ones, be vigilant to possible scams, and to always confirm unusual email requests by speaking to the sender in person ^15597
Bail Violations
On Friday night police attended an address in the south end of the City for a noise complaint. Police spoke with a male party that smelled of alcohol and refused to identify himself. Police later identified the male and learned that he was on conditions to not possess or consume alcohol. As a result, the male is charged with Fail to Comply with Undertaking. The male was informed of the grounds for his arrest and a warrant is being sought. ^15615
Warrant Arrest
On the afternoon of September 2nd, the Elgin OPP contacted the STPS to advise they had arrested a 30 year old female on the strength of a warrant held by the STPS. While transporting the arrested party to St. Thomas Police headquarters, the female began having a mental health crisis and it was decided to bring her to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. The female was released unconditionally and left in the care of hospital staff. The warrant remains in effect. ^15641
Assault
Late on Saturday night, police attended an address near the City centre for reports of an assault that had occurred earlier in the evening. The victim sustained minor injuries and had fled to a family member’s home to call police. As a result of the investigation, police formed reasonable grounds to charge a 29 year old St. Thomas resident with Assault, Forcible Confinement, Fail to Comply with Release Order x 2, and Fail to Comply with Probation x 2. The accused is aware of the charges but has yet to turn themselves in. A warrant is being sought for their arrest. ^15667
