THEFTS

On Sunday a citizen was at the Optimist Park on Chestnut Street with her children at approximately 8pm.  Two teenaged boys who had been playing basketball grabbed her bag that was left on the ground near by, and ran off.  The first suspect had a darker complexion, was 5’6″, thin build and had curly black hair.  The second suspect was white, had a shaved head and was about 5’4″ tall.  Both suspects were wearing all black with black puffy jackets.  The backpack was ‘cammo’ patterned and had baby items and a pink Coach wallet with various ID’s inside.   ST23000424

Officers on Community Patrol were called to the Canadian Tire store in regards to a shoplifter.  On January 9th at approximately 1pm Canadian Tire staff observed a male conceal an item and attempt to leave the store without paying.  Staff confronted the suspect and the item was returned.  The suspect left the store prior to Police arrival but was identified by surveillance video as 35 year old Dillon Churchill of St. Thomas.    A warrant application was initiated and Churchill will be charged with Theft under $5,000.  ST23000480

Sometime overnight of January 7th a trailer was stolen from a laneway of a residence on Acorn Trail.  A white Haulmark car hauler trailer with a value of $25,000 was stolen with numerous items inside including two sets of tires and tools.  The trailer is 25 feet long, has a double axel with four wheels and a side man door.  ST23000490

Officers on Community Patrol were called to a residence on Curtis Street in regards to an attempt theft of a motor vehicle.  Sometime overnight of January 7th suspects punched the lock to the residents GMC pick up truck while parked in the laneway.  Suspects also damaged the steering column.  ST23000462.

On January 9th at 135am a vehicle owner received a notice on his phone that the door to his Chevrolet Silverado had been opened.  He exited  his home on Hincks Street and observed one male in his truck and the other on the sidewalk.  He confronted them and they fled.  He followed them to Mitchell Street and observed them enter a newer model grey sedan and drive away eastbound on Mitchell St.  The drivers side door handle was broken, the ignition was dismantled and the lock to the attached trailer had been cut off.   Nothing was stolen.  Suspect 1 is described as having a heavy build and was wearing a light brown coat and work boots.  Suspect 2 is described as being short, having a medium build and was wearing a black jacket and black pants.  Both suspects were wearing face masks.  ST23000447.

BREAK AND ENTER

Sometime overnight of January 8th suspects attended an apartment on Inkerman Street and broke into the shed that was in the parking lot.  The shed was locked so the suspects ripped the entire wall off of one side to gain entry.  Stolen was a Poulan 14″ chainsaw, two electric drills (unknown make) and a Dewalt grinder.  Two males were observed on surveillance video, the investigation is continuing.   ST23000478

INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE

Officers on Community Patrol attended a residence on Hincks Street on January 9th at 845 am after receiving a 911 call.  A 25 year old St. Thomas male was arrested without incident for Assault – spousal and Disobey Court Order.  He was transported to the Colin McGregor Building for processing.  The victim did not require medical attention.  The accused was later released with a future court date.

Officers on Community Patrol attended another Hincks Street address for a report of domestic violence.  On January 10th at approximately 1am, a 32 year old man was arrested without incident and transported to the Colin McGregor Building for processing.  He was charged with Assault -spousal and was later released with a future court date.

ARSON

On January 10th at approximately 2:10 am City Police and Fire attended an address on Wellington Street for a dumpster fire.  The dumpster was fully engulfed in flames.  The fire was extinguished by the Fire Department.  The plastic lids were destroyed and there was some black charring up the wall of the building it was beside.  ST23000516
