On the evening of Sunday the 29th of September 2024, the St Thomas Police Service was requested to attended the area of Penhale Avenue to assist St Thomas Fire with a working residential structure fire.
Police attended and provided assistance with traffic control and with victims of two homes that were damaged in the fire. The fire had started in the garage in one home and had quickly spread to the exterior of a neighbouring house.
St Thomas Fire was able to extinguish the fires and all occupants were evacuated safely from the homes and the area – including a family dog rescued from a backyard.
A joint investigation between Police and Fire showed that the fire was accidental in nature and there is no concern for public safety.
We would like to thank all first responders involved, especially St Thomas Fire for their professionalism and hard work.
