The St. Thomas Police Service will host the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics Ontario on Tuesday September 15 at 11:00 a.m.
Joined by local Special Olympics athletes, participants will begin at the west end of Talbot Street, make a special stop at City Hall for a photo opportunity and finish at St. Thomas Police Service Headquarters.
The Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run brings members of law enforcement together to champion acceptance and inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, beginning within their own communities. Through the partnership between LETR and Special Olympics, athletes are given opportunities to empower themselves, pursue their goals and help transform their communities.
Special Olympics Ontario is the charity of choice for the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. Locally, the St. Thomas Police Service has a strong and valued relationship with Special Olympics athletes through events including the Torch Run, Polar Plunge and various sporting activities.
“Our athletes demonstrate perseverance, strength and determination every day,” said Inspector Kim Manuel of the St. Thomas Police Service. “Supporting and connecting with these athletes is one of the most rewarding aspects of our profession, and we are honoured to host the Torch Run once again.”
The annual Torch Run is more than a community event. It is a movement that brings people together to celebrate Special Olympics athletes and promote acceptance and inclusion.
The St. Thomas Police Service invites the community to line Talbot Street on September 15, cheer on participants and show their support as the Flame of Hope makes its way through St. Thomas.
