Arrest Made Following Northside Disturbance Investigation

The St. Thomas Police Service has concluded an investigation into a disturbance reported in a northside neighbourhood, Wednesday morning.

At approximately 6:30 a.m., police attended a residence in the area of South Edgeware Road and Burwell Road on the city’s north side. Information received indicated an individual had entered the residence and caused significant damage inside the unit while threatening the occupant.

Upon arrival, police learned that the individual became aggressive, damaged property within the residence, and assaulted the victim. It was reported the accused pointed a firearm at the victim while making threats before leaving the residence.

Officers located and arrested the individual a short time later in the hallway of a nearby apartment building without further incident.

As the investigation continued, officers executed a search warrant at a residence on South Edgeware Road, Wednesday afternoon. This contributed to the extended police presence in the area throughout the day. During the search, officers recovered a replica firearm believed to be connected to the incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 22 year old St. Thomas man is charged with:

  • Two counts Breach of Probation
  • Two counts Assault
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Uttering Threats
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

Once processed at police headquarters, he was transported to court and was subsequently remanded into custody.

The St. Thomas Police Service thank residents for their patience and cooperation while officers conducted the investigation. The increased police presence was necessary to safely investigate the incident and ensure public safety.
