Break and Enter:
In the early morning hours on Saturday the 31st of January 2026, we received a call from an upstairs tenant in the downtown core reporting people were possibly inside a business below them. Police attended and located an insecure door. The business was cleared used K9 – no one was located inside and nothing appeared to be missing. The business owner was contacted and will be providing video of the interior of the business. The matter is under investigation. Incident ST26001678
RIDE Program:
Officers on general patrol conducted an in-service RIDE program in the city. No drivers displayed any signs of impairment however several tickets were issued for other offences under the Highway Traffic Act. Incident ST26001692.
Warrant Arrest:
A forty-year-old St Thomas resident was arrested for breaching conditions of his court release, related to contacting his victim (ST26001638). The male was arrested and held for weekend video court. Incident ST26001717.
IPV Assault:
We were contacted by a 60-year-old female who reported being in an argument with her husband in their residence. We attended and spoke with all parties involved, including several witnesses, learning that the female caller was intoxicated and assaultive towards her partner. The female was arrested, charged with assault, and later released on an undertaking with conditions. Incident ST26001729.
Impaired driver:
On Saturday night we were contacted by staff at a local licenced establishment that had concerns that a patron was going to be driving their vehicle after consuming alcohol. Police attended and located the vehicle being operated on a roadway in the area. The 48-year-old male driver, from Elgin County, was showing signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested for impaired operation. While at the station the male become uncooperative and then later claimed to be in medical distress. The driver taken to STEGH as a precautionary measure. The male was later released on an appearance notice at the hospital, charged impaired operation, and a warrant is being sought for medical records and evidence from the hospital related to blood alcohol.
