Media release for Monday August 25th 2025

Shoplifts

On August 24th, we were called to a grocery store in the 1063 block of Talbot Street for reports of a theft. An unknown female entered the store and left without paying for nearly $500 worth of product. We are reviewing video looking to identify the suspect. ST25015161

We were called to a grocery store in the west end of the city for a possible shoplift where the suspect went hands on with an employee while they were trying to leave the store. No injuries were sustained. ST25015187

We attended the same store for another shoplift where this time an unknown female entered the store and left after concealing items under her shirt. We are reviewing store video footage as we continue to investigate the incident. ST25015194

 

Warrant arrest

We arrested a 39 year old female wanted on a 1st instance warrant for a number of breaches. She was processed and later released on an appearance notice. ST25015202

 

Fraud

A St. Thomas resident is out over $120 000 after they were defrauded over a period of several months after being contacted by someone through the internet and then over the phone. Members of our Criminal Investigations Branch have taken over the investigation.

Protecting yourself from fraud

In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect yourself and things to consider while online:

  • Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
  • No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App or Telegram
  • No employer will ever pay you in crypto currency
  • No employer will ask you to invest your own money
  • Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself.
  • Be very cautious when someone asks you to pay for an item with gift cards

 

Vehicle entry

We attended a south end address to investigate a vehicle entry that had occurred sometime over in the early morning hours or August 24th. Taken was a number of items including a wallet with ID and bank cards. We are canvassing the area for video as we investigate the incident. ST25015208

 

Warrant arrest

We located and arrested a 16 year old youth wanted on an outstanding warrant. The accused was released a short time later on a Youth Appearance notice. ST25015218

 

Shoplift

We were called to a grocery store in the 1063 block of Talbot for reports of a male in custody for theft. Upon arrival, we learned that the male was on a number of release orders in relation to shoplifting in the area therefore he was processed and held for morning court, charged with theft under and resist arrest.
