Forensic Identification Civilian Technician

Full Time Permanent Position

Civilian Agreement

We are pleased to be accepting resumes for the position of Forensic Identification Civilian Technician within the St. Thomas Police Service. The successful candidate will perform the technical work of processing scenes of crime including photography, video recording, and documentation of crime scenes, motor vehicle collisions, death scenes and other occurrences. The Forensic Identification Civilian Technician will be required to collect DNA evidence in the form of blood, saliva and other bodily fluids. The successful candidate will be required to prepare reports detailing their findings in accordance with policy and will be required to provide testimony relating to those reports and evidence gathered. The Forensic Identification Civilian Technician will also be trained and appointed as a Special Constable with related authorities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Security Clearance Check
  • Must possess a valid class “G” Ontario driver’s license
  • Outstanding organizational skills, time management, and ability to multi-task in order to meet deadlines and achieve objectives
  • Ability to prioritize, work under pressure and manage multiple projects
  • Punctual, self-motivated and self-directed
  • Willingness to step in to assist team members as needed
  • Flexibility to support after hours operational needs as required
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information

 

Beneficial Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Education with related Degree or Diploma
  • Experience with a Canadian Police Service is considered an asset

  • Problem solving and research skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer competency with a variety of software programs
  • Drawing and drafting skills
  • Detailed oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to learn and understand the criminal and provincial court system and providing evidence in Court
  • Successfully complete a psychological evaluation to ensure suitability
  • Participate in annual wellness evaluations for health and well-being
  • Good moral character
  • Exhibit self-control of emotions
  • Reliable attendance
  • Able to work in a team setting under supervision of the Criminal Investigations Sergeant
