Media Release Monday October 21st 2024

Impaired Operation 

A 52 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Sunday October 20th 2024, officers conducting a RIDE program on the southside of the city, observed the driver of a vehicle avoid the RIDE check and fail to stop. Police quickly located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Through investigation, police formed grounds that the 52 year old driver was impaired by alcohol. A roadside screening device was administered, registering a fail. The individual was arrested and transported to police headquarters where further testing confirmed the individual to be in excess of 80ml of alcohol. As a result, the 52 year was charged with Operation while Impaired – Plus 80 and released on an appearance notice.  ST24019048

Arson

St. Thomas police are currently investigating an arson. On Sunday October 20th 2024, officers were called to an address on Elm Street by St. Thomas Fire who had extinguished a fire to a vehicle that was determined to be intentionally set. No injuries were reported and no damage to to the property or surrounding vehicles was observed. This remains under investigation. ST24019067

Mischief

St. Thomas police are investigating the report of damaged caused to a vehicle. On Saturday October 19th, it was reported that a vehicle parked in a neighbourhood on the northside of the city had been sustained damaged and had a tire slashed. The incident occurred in the overnight hours of the 16th. ST24018946

A 28 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Sunday October 20th 2024, STPS attended an address on the northside of the city, where significant damaged had been caused to an apartment. Through investigation, police identified and located the individual responsible. As a result, a 28 year old St. Thomas resident was charged with one count of Mischief and transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. Theft 

A pair of boots have been reported stolen from a retail store on Talbot Street. On Saturday October 19th, police were called to the store to investigate the report of an unknown person entering the store, selecting the boots and leaving the store, failing to pay. The individual was last seen leaving the area in a silver sedan. This remains under investigation. ST24018968

A purse has been reported stolen from a downtown business. On Sunday October 20th 2024, police were called to investigate the theft that occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. the night previous. Officers spoke with the victim who reports their wallet was in their purse and their credit card had since been used. Police are reviewing available video of the incident as they continue to investigate. ST24019020

A black and grey Fuji bike has been reported stolen from a downtown location at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Sunday October 20th 2024. ST24019033

Approximately $1,800 of tools have been reported stolen from a commercial vehicle. On Sunday October 20th 2024, police were called to investigate the incident which occurred in the early morning hours. It was reported that the vehicle’s tool boxes had been entered and the tools taken. No damage to the vehicle was reported. This remains under investigation. ST24019034

A 39 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Sunday October 20th 2024, officers on community patrol located the individual known to them to be wanted on an outstanding warrant with our service for Theft Under $5,000, after being identified as the person responsible in a theft investigation from the week prior. The 39 year old was processed and released on an appearance notice. ST24019050/18952

Fraud

St. Thomas police are currently investigating the unauthorized use of a credit card. On Sunday October 20th 2024, police were called to investigate the report of a lost wallet. Through investigation, officers learned the victim had lost their wallet the day before while shopping at a retail store on Wellington Street. The victim received a fraud alert from their credit card company on Sunday morning after an unauthorized purchase attempt was made. This remains under investigation. ST24019014

Breach of Probation 

A 34 year old St. Thomas resident is wanted by police after failing to comply with their probation order. On Sunday October 20th 2024, STPS were made aware of the individual attending an address they are on conditions to not attend. A warrant for arrest has been requested. ST24019027
