Impaired Operation

A 32 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged with Impaired Operation after police were called by a concerned citizen. On Monday October 7th, just after 2:30 p.m. police were called to check on the wellbeing of an individual who appeared slumped over the steering of their vehicle. STPS attended a southside address and located the vehicle and individual. A standard field sobriety test demand was issued resulting in the 32 year old performing poorly. The individual was arrested and transported to police headquarters where further testing by a drug recognition evaluator confirmed impairment by drug. A license suspension was issued and the vehicle was towed and impounded. The St. Thomas resident was processed and released with a future court. ST24018133

Assault 

St. Thomas police are currently investigating an assault that took place on Monday October 7th 2024. At approximately 3:20 p.m. police were called to the intersection of Redan and Balaclava to investigate the report on an individual being physically assaulted and threatened after a verbal dispute between several parties had escalated. Through investigation, police learned the victim was riding their bike in the area when a minor collision occurred with two other individuals on their bikes. The victim was pushed off their bike by one of the individuals, assaulted and threatened sustaining minor injuries. A 36 year old Aylmer resident is wanted by police after an assault downtown. Last night, at approximately 10:45 p.m. police were called by the victim who reported being assaulted by an unknown individual. Through investigation and review of video surveillance in the area, officers identified the 36 year old Aylmer resident as the individual responsible. As a result, they have been charged with one count of Assault, one count Uttering Threats and one count of Failure to Comply with Probation. A warrant for arrest has been requested. ST24018162

Break and Enter 

Approximately $75,000 in construction equipment has been reported stolen from a business in the industrial area of the city. On Monday October 7th, the owner of the business attended police headquarters to report the incident that occurred approximately one month ago. It was reported that two unknown individuals attended the business causing significant damage to the interior before leaving with the construction equipment. STPS are reviewing available video surveillance as they continue to investigate. ST24018138

Industrial wire and construction supplies have been reported stolen from a business on the northside of the city. On Monday October 7th, police were called to investigate the incident that occurred at some point over the weekend. It was reported that a fence surrounding the property had been cut, allowing access to a secured area. STPS are reviewing available video surveillance as they continue to investigate. ST24018097

Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft 

St. Thomas police are currently investigating the attempted theft of motor vehicle. On Monday October 7th 2024, police were called to an employee parking lot on Burwell Road by the vehicle owner. It was reported that the owner arrived at work and parked their truck just before 7 a.m.. When returning to their vehicle at approximately 4 p.m. the lock had been punched and a window had been broken. The interior of the truck had been damage and the ignition removed. On site video surveillance is being provided to police as they continue to investigate. ST24018137

Theft of Motor Vehicle 

A blue, four door Kia Forte has been reported stolen. On Monday October 7th 2024, the vehicle owner contacted police to report the theft that occurred the day before. It was reported that the vehicle owner was providing a ride to an acquaintance and during a stop on their way to the location, the suspect entered the drivers seat and fled the area in the vehicle. Vehicle Entry

Damage to a commercial vehicle parked in the area of Centre and White Street has been reported to police. Through investigation, police learned that at some point between Saturday night at 10:30 p.m. and Monday morning at 6 a.m. an unknown person had caused damaged to the exterior lock box of the vehicle, gaining access to the contents. This remains under investigation. ST24018096

Fraud

A St. Thomas resident is out approximately $15,000 after falling victim to a Facebook Marketplace scam. On Monday October 7th 2024, the victim contacted police to report the incident in which they were selling items online and provided a link to an individual who was purchasing an item from them. Banking information was provided to the individual to complete their purchase. The following day, the victim was made aware of several fraudulent transactions and withdrawals from their account.
