Media Release Monday September 25th 2023

Theft 

A CCTV camera has been reported stolen. On Saturday September 23rd, 2023 St. Thomas police were called to investigate the theft that occurred sometime between September 14th and September 21st, 2023 from an address on St. George Street. Through investigation, police learned that there are additional cameras in the area that may have captured the incident and are continuing their investigation. ST23016942

A 27 year old St. Thomas resident has been trespassed from a local restaurant after St. Thomas police were called to a Talbot Street address. On Saturday September 23rd, 2023 police were called to investigate the report of an unknown person stealing an on site donation box. Upon arrival, police located the individual responsible and the money was returned. ST23016959

A light purple, Garneau bicycle has been reported stolen. On Sunday September 24th, STPS were called to investigate the theft that occurred sometime in the overnight hours from an address on William Street. The bike was taken from the backyard of the residence and is valued at approximately $200. ST23017001

49 year old Thomas Kitchener has been arrested. On Sunday September 24th 2023, St. Thomas police were called to the area of Wellington Street and First Avenue by a vehicle owner who had just witnessed an individual enter their car and leave with their purse. Upon arrival, police located 49 year old Kitchener, matching the description given by the victim. Kitchener was arrested and charged with one count Theft under $5,000 and one count Failure to Comply with Probation. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. The stolen purse was recovered and returned. ST23017021

R. I. D. E.  

Approximately 150 vehicles were stopped during a RIDE program conducted by STPS on Saturday September 23rd, 2023. One Provincial Offense Notice was served and three Highway Traffic Act warnings were issued. There were no impairments reported. ST23016963

Assault 

A 61 year old St.  Thomas resident has been treated for minor injuries after an assault on Saturday September 23rd, 2023. Police were called to an address on Elm Street to investigate the report of an individual being kicked to the ground by an unknown person riding a dirt bike. Through investigation it was learned that the while crossing the street, the victim was almost hit by the dirt bike. Through review of the available CCTV, the person riding the dirt bike then turned around and proceeded to kick the victim as they drove by again. The dirt bike was then seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The driver of the bike is described as wearing a red motocross suit and a blue helmet. Police are continuing to investigate. A 58 year old London resident has been arrested. On Sunday September 24th 2023, St. Thomas police were called to a Princess Avenue address to investigate the report of an assault that had occurred between former partners. Upon arrival STPS determined an assault had occurred and subsequently formed grounds to charge the 58 year old with one count Assault. The individual was arrested and transported to police headquarters where they were processed and later released with a future court date. ST23017029

Arson

St. Thomas police are currently investigating a suspected arson. On Sunday September 24th 2023, STPS we contacted by the St. Thomas Fire Department who responded to a fire on First Avenue at approximately 5 a.m. that morning. Through investigation, police observed significant damage to an open dumpster, now covered in soot. Police canvassed the area of the fire and are continuing their investigation. ST23016995

Warrant Arrest 

30 year old Justin Dobson has been arrested. On Monday September 25th 2023, officers on community patrol observed Dobson who was known to them to be wanted by our service on an outstanding warrant for Theft under $5,000 stemming from a shoplifting incident earlier this year. Dobson was processed at the scene and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST23017051

Vehicle Entries 

Entry to a vehicle parked in the laneway of a home on Sunset Drive has been reported to police. The owner contacted police after reviewing surveillance footage that captured an unknown person entering their vehicle at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Police were able to identify the person in the video and have subsequently requested a warrant for arrest. ST23017004

Entry to a vehicle on Stanley Street has been reported to police. On Sunday September 24th 2023, STPS were contacted by the vehicle owner who reported that in the overnight hours, their vehicle was entered and their wallet and a set of work keys had been taken. The bank card in the stolen wallet was then used at a nearby convenience store. STPS are reviewing surveillance of the transaction to identify the suspect. ST23017018

Entry to a vehicle on Moore Street has been reported to police. On Sunday September 24th 2023, St. Thomas police were contacted by the vehicle owner who reported that sometime overnight, an unknown person entered their vehicle and stole a work cell phone and a quantity of change. The cell phone has since been cancelled. ST23017020

Entry to a vehicle parked in the employee lot of the hospital has been reported to police. On Sunday September 24th 2023, St. Thomas police were contacted by the vehicle owner who reported that the vehicle ownership and insurance along with a pair of Kate Spade prescription sunglasses valued at approximately $700 were taken from their vehicle while they were at work. STPS contacted hospital security who confirmed they had video surveillance of the vehicle entry and will be forwarding it to police. This remains under investigation.  ST23017035
