STPS media release for July 5th 2023

Shoplifts

On July 2nd 2023, Police were contacted by loss prevention at a local grocery store reporting an unknown male had left the store with a full cart of product without making any attempt to pay. Police are reviewing video footage in an attempt to identify the suspect. ST23011696

St. Thomas Police Service was contacted by a staff member at a local store who called to report an unknown male had entered the store and concealed a number of items before leaving without paying. The matter is under investigation as Police gather video footage. ST23011710

Arson

In the early morning hours of July 3rd 2023, STPS were contacted by the St. Thomas Fire Department in relation to a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, Police located a heavily damaged & abandoned vehicle which evidence suggested had been intentionally lit on fire. The vehicle is believed to be a 2019-2021 Ford Escape Titanium edition. Police continue to investigate and canvass for video. Fail to comply

STPS was contacted in relation to a female that had gone to an address which she was on conditions not to attend. The female also made contact with the male resident which she was on conditions not to do. As a result, the female was charged and is currently wanted. ST23011786

Domestic violence

STPS attended a north end address after the female resident called to report her estranged husband had attended and assaulted her and damaged property. The male then drove at the residence with his vehicle and collided with the porch before taking off and leaving the area prior to Police arrival. The male was subsequently charged with assault cause bodily harm, mischief and dangerous driving. A warrant has been put out for his arrest. The female victim suffered minor injuries. ST23011798

Break & Enter

On July 4th 2023, STPS was contacted to attend a south end park concession stand where unknown person(s) had broken in and taken a number of items. Police have the matter currently under investigation. Possession of stolen property

STPS Officers on community patrol located Cody Ferris in possession of two bicycles. Investigation revealed that the bicycles had in fact been reported stolen. The bicycles were seized, to be returned to their rightful owners. Ferris was subsequently arrested and held for court. ST23011836

Impaired operation

STPS Officers on community patrol conducted a traffic stop of a male riding an E-Bike. After speaking with the male, Officers formed reasonable suspicion that he was operating his conveyance with alcohol in his body. A roadside was administered which confirmed the Officer’ suspicion. Kevin Hoy was subsequently arrested and brought back to the STPS station where further tests determined he had nearly 2.5 times the legal limit of alcohol in his body. Hoy was charged accordingly and held for court where he was remanded into custody. ST23011848

Mischiefs

Late on July 4th, STPS Officers attended a north end address after reports that 2 suspects had thrown an unknown object at the front door, breaking the glass. The suspects allegedly fled the area in a white vehicle and were not located. Police continue to investigate. ST23011857

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the male party in the photo below. This is in relation to damaged property inside a downtown variety store.
