Police officers & citizens assaulted – London man charged

A 40 year London man is facing several charges after members of the St. Thomas Police Service and two citizens were assaulted.

Just before 5:30 p.m. on Monday June 12th, 2023 police responded to a bank on Talbot street as a result of multiple 911 calls in relation to an out of control male.

Upon arrival, officers were immediately confronted by the male who had, without provocation, assaulted two citizens in the bank who appeared to be suffering from their injuries and in need of medical assistance.  As police attempted to arrest the male and gain control of the situation, they were physically assaulted.

With the assistance of a conductive energy weapon (CEW), officers were able to apprehend the accused.

As a result of the incident, a 40 year old London man has been charged with the following:

  • Assault a Peace Officer x 2
  • Assault
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Mischief
  • Causing a disturbance

The accused was transported to hospital to be medically assessed. While in hospital, an unprovoked assault occurred between the accused and a Doctor. As a result, he is additionally charged with Assault. Once medically cleared, the accused was arrested and attended court where he was remanded into custody.
