On Tuesday February 21st 2023, St. Thomas Police were called to a local community center after being contacted by staff in relation to an incident that was captured on their cameras over the weekend. Investigation has lead to a 40 year old St. Thomas man being charge with 1 count Cruelty to animals – unnecessary pain, suffering or injury, 1 count fail to comply with probation order, 2 counts possession of a controlled substance ST23002801
Warrants and Arrests
On Tuesday February 21st, 2023 Officers at the Elgin County Courthouse were dealing with a 64 year old St. Thomas man on an unrelated matter when it discovered he had an outstanding warrant for failure to comply with his release order. The man was processed without incident. ST23002840
On Tuesday February 21st, 2023 while executing a search warrant at a residence in the City, St. Thomas Police located a 54 year old St. Thomas man with an outstanding warrant. The accused was arrested without incident and transported to the Colin McGregor Building and held for court. ST23002823
On Friday February 17, 2023 Officers on community patrol arrested a 41 year old St. Thomas women on an outstanding warrant for failure to comply with her release order. The woman was processed without incident and held for morning court. ST23002638
Breach / Mischief
On Tuesday February 21st 2023, Officers on community patrol were called to the 300 block of Talbot Street to take the report of an unwanted male. Investigation revealed that the male was at large on a release order with a condition not to attend the address. The male was arrested for failing to comply with release order. While in custody for violating his release conditions, the 32 year old St. Thomas male caused damage to a wall at the Colin McGregor Building. He was subsequently charged with failing to comply with release order and mischief. He was held for court. ST23002811/ST23002839
Mischief
On Tuesday February 21st, 2023 St. Thomas Police were called to Monsignor Morrison in relation to an incident that occurred sometime after 5:00 pm on February 20th. A vehicle appears to have caused some property damage to the playground, by doing doughnuts and burn outs on the grass. STPS are continuing to investigate. Theft
On Tuesday February 21st 2023, St. Thomas Police were called to investigate after a backpack was stolen from a shopping cart at a downtown retail store. A white, male suspect was described as having a goatee, black hat, camo hoodie, blue jacket, blue jeans and black shoes. Fraud
On Tuesday February 21st 2023, St. Thomas Police were called in regard to a potential phone scam. Upon further investigation, a local woman believes she fell victim to a new scam after someone claiming to be from a cell phone company called to offer her a new plan and mobile phone upgrade. She was alerted by her credit card statement, showing unauthorized charges. ST23002824
