St. Thomas Police officers attended a residence in the south end of the city regarding a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old St. Thomas resident was arrested and charged with one count of assault and later released with conditions and a future court date. No injuries were sustained as a result of the assault. Ref# ST24000553.
A St. Thomas resident attended a downtown restaurant on their bicycle to pick-up some food. The bicycle was stolen while the customer was inside the restaurant paying and receiving their food. The bicycle is a dark gray Norco Storm mountain bike. See attached image. Ref#ST24000587.
A customer at a downtown fast food restaurant had their laptop stolen when they left their seat for a moment. Through investigation and the assistance of video footage, St. Thomas Police officers later arrested and charged a 21-year-old transient person with theft not exceeding $5000. The laptop was recovered and returned to the rightful owner. The accused was later released by police with conditions and a future court date. Ref#ST24000588
Protecting yourself from fraud
In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect yourself and things to consider while online:
- Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
- No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App or Telegram
- No employer will ever pay you in crypto currency
- No employer will ask you to invest your own money
- Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself.
