Intimate Partner Violence

A 41 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged after an assault was reported to police. Through investigation, it was learned ongoing altercations between the victim and their spouse have escalated resulting in minor injury. As a result, a 41 year old has been charged with two counts of Assault and two counts of Failure to Comply with Probation Order. A warrant for arrest has been requested. ST24012660

Warrant Arrests

A 65 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Tuesday July 23rd 2024, officers at the Elgin County Courthouse were dealing with the individual on an unrelated matter when they became aware of an outstanding warrant with our service, issued after the individual failed to attend court in relation to an impaired driving incident in June. The individual was processed and released with future court date. ST24012707

A 29 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested after a traffic stop in the city last night. Just before 9 p.m. officers on community patrol were flagged down by a driver wishing to speak to them about a theft that had occurred. The driver was instructed to pull over so police could speak with them.  An inquiry of the driver revealed they are bound by a probation order to not be driving or to be out of their residence past a certain time. Further investigation found the 29 year old to be in possession of prohibited weapon. As a result, the individual has been charged with two counts of Failure to Comply with Probation Order and one count of Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon. Officers transported the individual to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an appearance notice. ST24012721

Mischief 

Damage to a window of a business in the 400 block of Talbot Street has been reported to police. On Tuesday July 23rd 2024, an employee reported the damage after arriving to work and noticing a large storefront window had been smashed. No access to the building was gained. This remains under investigation. ST24012658

Theft 

A E-Bike, valued at approximately $2,300 has been reported stolen. On Tuesday July 23rd 2024, officers were called to a Talbot Street retail store to investigate the theft that occurred sometime between 12:50 – 2:00 p.m. It was reported the owner of the bike secured and locked it to a bike rack and entered the store to shop. When the owner returned, the bike had been stolen. Police are reviewing available video surveillance of the incident as they continue to investigate. ST24012697

A purple BMX bike has been reported stolen. On Tuesday July 23rd 2024, the owner of the bike had secured it to a bike rack in front of the library. When they returned, their bike was gone.
