Vehicle entry
Ownership documents and insurance slips have been reported stolen. On Wednesday February 28th, 2024 the owner of the vehicle contacted police to report that while their car was parked at address on Burwell Road, it had been entered and the documents taken. Break and enter
St. Thomas police are currently investigating a residential break and enter. On Wednesday February 28th 2024, officers were called to an address on Burwell Road for the report on an unknown person entering a home and taking personal identification and bank cards. The incident occurred sometime after midnight and before 3 a.m. This remains under investigation. ST24003167
Theft
A cat shelter has been reported stolen. On Wednesday February 28th 2024, officers were contacted by a property owner who reported that an unknown person had attended the front porch of an address on Pearl Street and took the cat shelter. A photo of the shelter can be seen below along with a photo of the suspect. If you have any information in regards to this incident please contact police. ST24003171
Fraud
A 28 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Wednesday February 28th 2024, STPS were called to investigate the report of fraudulent use of a bank card. Through investigation it was learned the victim received a notification from their financial institution informing them of the suspicious activity. Officers attended the locations of the transactions and were able to identify and locate the individual responsible. As a result, the 28 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged with one count Use of Credit Card, one count Fraud under $5000, and one count Failure to Comply with Probation Order. The individual was arrested and transported to police headquarters where the were processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST24003182
Assault
A 53 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Wednesday February 28th 2024, officers were called to a disturbance at an West end address. Upon arrival, police learned a verbal argument between two parties known to each other had turned physical. As a result, the 53 year old was charged with one count Assault and transported to police headquarters where they were processed and released on an undertaking with a future court. ST24003189
Protecting yourself from fraud
In an ongoing effort to help protect the residents of St. Thomas from falling victim to online scams and fraud, the St. Thomas Police Service would like to remind the community on ways to protect themselves and things to consider while online:
- Always get a second opinion from family or friends regarding the situation
- Always verify the person you are corresponding with is legitimate
- No employer will reach out to you through apps like Whats App
- If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a family member or relative, hang up and call the number you have for them.
- No employer will ask you to invest your own money or purchase gift cards.
- Use the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre as a resource to familiarize yourself with current scams and additional ways to protect yourself
And remember if it seems suspicious, it likely is.
